A Persuasive Essay: Layoff Jobs
"Layoffs" A Persuasive Essay
Rather than accept my failure after being laid off, I decided to continue with my education and keep positive while looking for a new job. Layoff is a termination of employment of an employee or a group of employees for business reasons, such as the decision that certain positions are no longer necessary. In most cases a company will buy other companies and they will no longer need double people for a position. So here's the scoop: I got let go. Harding Security and Associates, my previous company was in a cash crunch and I was expendable. But really, it's probably was all for the best. I didn't make enough money there, and I was way overqualified (given better financial resources the job would have evolved to

The loss of income puts an upcoming car purchase at risk, but I am certain I will find a new position in time to complete the deal. Though relatively new to the whole finding a job market, I knew exactly where to turn to find my next job fast – Monster.com. Less than 48 hours after the bad news I had posted my updated resume online and came to an exciting realization. She had found the perfect role for her at L-3 …show more content…
The job is in the Accounts Payable department, so that puts her one step ahead of the other candidates. And who knows, maybe my silly idea will land me an awesome new job. Normally I'd say I don't stand a chance at something this cool, not with the competition in the accounting world, but around here, I'm basically top of the heap when it comes to credentials. Not a lot of young non-college graduates' job-hunting around here with the references and training that I

About a month ago I was fired from my job. It was a terrible experience for me. I thought for a moment I was done but I had a funny feeling about what was happening and I thought to myself this could be an opportunity. I have always been a fan of cooking. I used to take cooking lessons when I was a child. I really believed I could make my dream come true and start my own business. I could open a restaurant anyplace I liked. So I dove into the task and tried and do my best. I borrowed the money off of my brother and I started to build my cuisine empire. I found an old house and fixed it to look like a restaurant. I swapped some old furniture for cooking equipment and finally I bought some groceries and started cooking. After a couple of weeks I had stood up for myself and made it in the business.…

Online, physically, or verbally you can be a victim of being bullied. You don’t have to keep things as they are. The question is how to handle the situation (Do you attack the bully and become the bully yourself? Or do you ignore the bully and pretend all is well?) What you do is speak up and ask for help. I would know, because not only was I a victim, I was also a person who stood by and simply watched it happen.…

Currently, Portland has a minimum wage at $9.25 per hour, the second highest in our country, but we still need to make it greater. Right this minute, if you’re a minimum wage worker, you make $15,636.25 take home each year, and then imagine that you were a mother or father of 2 kids. This wage makes barely enough for just one person to survive in today’s world, let alone a whole family. Imagine that you’re that mother or father, and you have your two kids, you’re working three jobs, but supporting your family is still impossibly hard. Sadly, many children everyday are born into poverty, and so our future generations keep spinning through this never ending circle.…

After noticing that pattern I started to realize that the length of time that you have been out of work matters. What was I to do? I tried to go back to the industry I was in prior but that didn’t work either. The architectural firms which is where my last two jobs were had a lot of budget cuts because of the recession that was happening in New York. It effected so many people. A lot of companies were getting rid of their employees left and right. So what is the best course of action to get back into the workforce because I had a family to provide for just like everybody else? I sign up to a bunch of temp agencies and they begin to call me for little 1-3 day assignments to only land the one I hated the most. There is no nice way to put it, I am a scheduler that’s it. I cannot spend the rest of my life doing this. There is so much more for me to do. My commute is horrible because I have to travel all the way to the Bronx from Brooklyn. That is every day and who wants to do that plus I have to be to work for 7am so I am up by 4 am and out the house by 5am? Is this job really worth it? I think not, but I have to keep a roof over my head and light, gas etc. So I guess you can say “I need Blow…

Being in high-school should definitely be the best four years of your life. Most people forget that these years is what usually makes up for the rest of your life. For example some people choose to study hard, pass their classes, and then have fun with the time they got left over. Others choose to use up all their time for fun and never pass classes or dedicate any type of time towards their education and usually get held back a couple of years like I did. If you really want to make high-school the best years of your life then I would suggest choosing option A so that you enjoy all the festivities and parties with friends without having to make-up for lost time.…

Due to the financial crisis there have been many changes made to government programs to reduce costs and help with debt. Many of these cuts are happening statewide, in America’s public schools. The first programs that are being cut are the art programs, and the excuse is that the core classes are more important. The argument is that children need to be more focused on test scores in Math, Science, English and History. It is unfair to single out art classes, there should be a more even spread of budget cuts, not just the sole elimination of the arts. There are parents who are indifferent with the arts and they are unfazed by their removal from elementary public schools. What many of these parents do not recognize is that there are actually benefits of the arts that help with core subjects. Some benefits are strengthening problem solving skills, stimulating critical thinking and helping developmental growth. There is also a duel component that shows that there is a direct correlation between SAT test scores and art programs in schools, as well as higher participation and attendance. It has also been shown that the arts can help boost the economy.…

The problem that I currently encounter is that I lost my job in a not-profit organization because, I was registered for 7 weeks training and I didn’t pass my license exam. During those for seven weeks I couldn’t concentrate because I was passing through a very stress situation. One the training was very intensive and I started school again the same time of the training. Two was looking for houses because my lease was going to be ending at the end of the training too, and school, the owner of the house was going to sell the house and I didn’t have enough time to find a house faster enough. I was trying to do the best I could with the little time I have. Unfortunately I didn’t pass the test and my score was 65% and the passing grade was supposed to be 80%. I was offered with a less pay salary doing transporting children to home visit, court and other activities. I know that the decision I make to resign was not the best decision because at this point I don’t have any income. I was very depressed because I have been working for not-profit organization for a long time and I know my job, but by going to that training I discount that…

In order to turn a negative experience into a positive one is to counter adversity with resilience; that is taking charge of how we think about adversity. The first step is to have a plan of action, then respond to that plan otherwise called response oriented thinking. I was employed with my previous company for six years. Initially, I started off as your typical receptionist, and then subsequently I was promoted three times. During my time with the company, I climbed the corporate ladder vigorously, positioning me as the assistant to the vice president during my last three and a half years. I was in my glory, feeling self-confident and looking forward to whatever came next. Unfortunately, the failing economy not only failed our business, forcing us to close, but it also turned my optimism into pessimism. After numerous interviews and no luck, I was running low on resources, fearing the perception of the business world around me. I needed another plan of action, and that’s exactly what I did. I took my challenge and turned it into an opportunity. Instead of seeking out positions for which I had done for the last six years, I broadened my outlook and sought out new career developments. This directed me to the hospitality industry which eventually led me to restaurant management. If I had continued to limit myself to a dereliction corresponding chain of events, I would have never succumbed to a more resourceful outcome.…

Out of work for nearly 30 months, he responded to dozens of employment ads, sent out more than 200 resumes, talked with several executive recruiting firms, and spent more than $7,000 on employment counseling. No luck. His experience wasn’t relevant to today’s workplace; small companies wanted flexible people; corporate types like Russ were seen as “mentally rigid.” Even if there was a job he would have to take at least a 50 percent cut in pay, and employers figured Russ would be demotivated and likely to “jump ship” at the first…
