Personal Narrative: A Temp Job
It was supposed to be a temp job. The deal was six months, then six months turned into two years. Although I could use the money I really didn’t want to stay. The job was a bit beneath my skill set. I have worked for big companies such as Goldman Sachs, Time Warner, as an executive assistant. I assisted 5 different bosses to land this job with mediocre duties. “Good Morning thank you for calling Blow Bart how can I help you?” What kind of name is Blow Bart anyways? It sounds very perverted. What the company does is fix appliances such as ovens, slicers, refrigerators you get my drift. So all I do all day is schedule techs to come out and fix peoples appliances. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to do it. What about Microsoft office? I spent so …show more content…
After noticing that pattern I started to realize that the length of time that you have been out of work matters. What was I to do? I tried to go back to the industry I was in prior but that didn’t work either. The architectural firms which is where my last two jobs were had a lot of budget cuts because of the recession that was happening in New York. It effected so many people. A lot of companies were getting rid of their employees left and right. So what is the best course of action to get back into the workforce because I had a family to provide for just like everybody else? I sign up to a bunch of temp agencies and they begin to call me for little 1-3 day assignments to only land the one I hated the most. There is no nice way to put it, I am a scheduler that’s it. I cannot spend the rest of my life doing this. There is so much more for me to do. My commute is horrible because I have to travel all the way to the Bronx from Brooklyn. That is every day and who wants to do that plus I have to be to work for 7am so I am up by 4 am and out the house by 5am? Is this job really worth it? I think not, but I have to keep a roof over my head and light, gas etc. So I guess you can say “I need Blow

As the single child in a family with working parents, I spent the most time of my childhood living and hanging around with my dog. This experience might be one of the reasons that I am very compassionate to animals and sensitive to people’s needs. My voluntary work is in a welfare house called Alenah's home. I love working there because I like seeing the smile face of the children there – even some autism babies don’t smile facially, I believe they can feel the love when being caressed softly.…

Not enough time, not enough money, and not enough sleep. It’s a stupid cycle that repeats itself over and over again. This is how I feel about my dead end job. I spent 5 long years at Costco and I learned a lot about myself, people, and about life. I believe that you can’t put a price on freedom. Freedom is defined as living life how one choses to live without any undue restraints or restrictions. We spend most of our lives too busy to have any free time, busy earning money to use on our free time, and busy not having enough time to rest after a long day of work. Working at a job I hated showed me how much I miss my Freedom to do what, I want when I want, however I want. Be with the people who I want to be with. Relax and enjoy life to the fullest. Feel like a kid again where my only worry in the world was pizza or hamburgers for lunch. Unfortunately unlike most people in life, I’m not rich let alone anywhere near it. I’m just an average person trying to make a fairytale dream come true and live happily ever after. Deep down inside I wanted to leave my job but I kept hearing the same things from people, friends, family, and myself. It’s hard to find a good paying job now days. You should stay don’t quit do you know how many people wish they had your job? I need the medical benefits just in case something happen to me. This is why I stayed at my job which allowed me to reflect on my life. You’re only young once and the next time you can enjoy freedom is when you retire. So I decided to make a leap of fate and as of june 9th 2011 which is my 26th birthday HINT HINT I decided to retire from Costco because quitting is for losers. I believe that you should enjoy freedom the best you can. Do what makes you happy and not worry about what others think. You have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to…

One thing that sets me apart from the other candidates applying to the University of California is my hard work. I have always been smaller than other kids my age. At 15 years old I was 4’ 10’’ and looked like I was eleven years old. Although this was an advantage at the airport, when I would begin to take off my shoes and the TSA Officer would look at me and say, “Don’t worry twelve and under can keep their shoes on.” I was often discredited for my size. Especially because I played volleyball, a sport known for its height. I constantly struggled to make a team I deserved to be on because people would see my height and automatically think I was not capable. Although my height often led me to feel discouraged and angry it eventually taught hard work.…

Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…

I spent the end of May and beginning of June applying for any activity job or volunteer opportunity that held my interest. I spent hours preparing for interviews, writing lengthy letters and internally panicking at every ring of the phone. in June I started my first job at the Hebron Carnival, and I could not have been more excited. I promised myself that I would work my hardest to make the carnival a better place than when I arrived. I also was accepted by the volunteer program at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and began work there every Monday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. that was the most educational job I have ever had the pleasure of working at.Also in June I applied to work at Azar Eye Institute and received a position there. I worked there Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 to 5:30. even after balancing my workload I was informed that I got a job volunteering at the library; which I did Monday and Thursday afternoons, and I also got a job working with children and animals at the Pemberton nature camp. Five jobs for a 15-year-old without a license sounds overwhelming, and it was. However, I loved every minute of it. I liked being part of the team, I liked being relied on by my fellow staff members, and most of all I liked having a…
