A Character Analysis Of Antonio Cather's My Antonio
In "My Antonio" Cather seemed to have a high admiration for Antonio throughout the story. Antonio's characteristics are shown and brought out in different ways from the beginning of the story to the end. Three of the strongest characteristics that Cather admired in Antonio were her determination, optimism and loyalty. Her determination is shown with her strong will to work, to improve her life and to take care of her family even after all of the unlucky things she had gone through. Jim says, "I know so many women who have kept all the things that she had lost, but whose inner glow has faded, Whatever else was gone. Antonio had not lost the fire of life." What is meant by this is that everything that Antonio had gone through does not show in …show more content…
He manages to kill it with everything he has by spading it across the neck. After Antonio discovers that Jim had ran upon the snake and killed it she was full of praise for we had had done. Her optimism shows during this because even in such a bad situation that could have been a deadly situation, she talks about him in such a heroic way. As Jim and Antonio are on their way back to tell the others the exciting snake story, Jim describes Antonio. "As she rode along slowly, her bare legs swinging against the ponies sides, she kept shouting back to me about how astonished everybody would be. Her exultation was contagious." Antonio's loyalty is especially shown through not only to Cather but to her family and friends. Antonio was asked about attending school so that she can learn so much more than what Jim had taught her. As Jim approached her with this she said, " I ain't got time to learn. I can work like mans now. School is alright for little boys. I help make this land one good farm." Antonio was loyal to everything and everyone she knew even if it meant sacrificing things she wanted in life. She was a very hard worker and was loyal to making anything she did a success. An additional characteristic of Antonio that Cather had was the admiration that never ended even at the end of the story. Jim tells Antonio, " Since I've been away, I think of you more often than anyone

I genuinely did not expect to learn this much from the book Unbroken. The story of Louie Zamperini was unexpectedly much more understandable and relatable than I first imagined. Seeing the main character was a former war hero, I found it surprising I was able to connect to him as I happen to be fourteen. In my opinion, readers can easily compare similar situations in their life, regardless of their age. A point often overlooked, Louie is a true survivor. He was stranded forty-seven days on a crammed raft, as well as beaten without remorse at a prison camp for two years. Louie was stripped of his friends as he watched them either be transferred or slowly die. He witnessed many accounts of sexual abuse to innocent and helpless animals, as well…

Throughout the novella I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, Robert Neville, the last human who is immune to this disease, is an anti-hero. For instance, towards the end of the story, during his state of confusion after he woke up, he felt pain that he had not ever felt before and thought that it must mean it was the end and said to himself ‘’I am going to die’’ (p.164). This statement shows that he accepts that his life will end here and he will not try to fight it in any way in order to continue surviving. In addition to this, after he realizes where he is and what happened, Ruth came to check on him and asks him why he did not leave beforehand like she told him to in the letter she left him. Robert explained to her ‘’I…couldn’t […] I almost…

Antonia was very loving and caring. She was a great mother and did everything she could to give her children all that they Needed. When Jim visited her family Antonia told Jim “you wouldn’t believe what it takes to feed them all”. Although it was difficult at times she kept her children fed and did whatever she had to do to keep it that way! This was strictly out of love and care for her family. Antonia is a very admirable person in this story. I can see why Cather admires her so much .Antonia is a prime example of how girls should act, hardworking, respectful, beautiful (inside and out), loving, caring, ambitious, family oriented, and much more. In this book, I have the utmost respect for Antonia and of all the things she has done for others and accomplished. Antonia was never a quitter and…

As Antonio converse with his 3rd grade teacher on growing up, he reflects onto one of Ultima’s word: “… a man’s destiny must unfold itself like a flower with only the sun and the earth and water making it blossom, and no one else meddling in it—”(Anaya 223). At this moment, Antonio seems to have fleeting flash-back, in which he starts to analyze the words of Ultima and understand what she intends to tell him. He now knows that his identity can only be chosen by himself. On the way to El Puerto, Antonio realizes significance of his identity from a conversation with his father, “…every generation, every man is a part of his past. He cannot escape it, but he may reform the old materials, make something new—” (Anaya 247). It is not odd for Antonio’s parents to want Antonio to achieve the certain dreams, nevertheless, the final decision is only done by Antonio. Therefore, depending on his preference, he may choose to fuse the parents’ cultures, follow one, or go on his own way. As shown previously, despite the strong opinions of Gabriel and María, only Antonio can make it to his destiny.…

In the novel One of Ours Cather illustrates World War 1 different then most. From the somewhat graphic descriptions of injuries and death to the calm village scenes to meditations on what it must have meant for so many young men to finally find meaning in their lives just when they were most at risk of losing everything. She often romanticized the war but at the same time she made it well balanced. She showed the war as a monstrous thing that was fought by decent-hearted people in defense of their fellow human beings.…

Throughout "Bless Me, Ultima" there are numerous allusions to Antonio being, or becoming Christ. Such as in one of his dreams from the first half of the book, "It is neither! I shouted. I swung the dark robe of the priest over my shoulders then lifted my hands in the air. The mist swirled around me and sparks flew when I spoke. It is the presence of the river. Save us, my brothers cried and cowered at my words. I spoke to the presence of the river and it allowed my brothers to cross with their carpenter tools to build our castle on the hill." (Pg. 26) This symbolism of Antonio allowing his brothers to cross the river with their carpenter tools suggests that Antonio is not just a priest in his dream but Christ. Talking with the river to save the ones he loves who are carpenters.…

William Shakespeare based his play Othello, published in 1603, on the short story Un Capitano Moro by Giraldi Cinthio, which was published in 1565. Even though the two stories have many similar points and aspects, they are quite different. The basic structure of the plot is almost the same in both stories; each author simply wrote in their own details. Both authors also had different writing styles. Cinthio chose not to name any of his characters except for Disdemona, and Shakespeare gave all of his characters actual names. Shakespeare mainly depended on indirect characterization. His characters expressed their true intentions through…
