The 2014 Kia Soul Hamster Commercial is directed to young adults and begins with three overweight hamsters in human form, attempting to get fit. While the commercial displays their montage of workouts and Lady Gaga’s new hit single “Applause” plays in the background, the perspective alternates between the hamsters and the car designer. This car designer appears to be designing the new 2014 Kia Soul. Once the hamsters and car are ready, they make an appearance on the Red Carpet and dazzle the crowd. Why hamsters? There are many species of hamsters, but Kia chose the golden hamster, which is the most common hamster pet according to the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. These hamsters are “small (4” to 7”), short-tailed rodents with large cheek pouches, small eyes and a variety of appealing coat colors” . The golden hamster is an ideal image of what attracts and triggers the part of the human brain that causes someone to want something. Lady Gaga’s song, “Applause,” is upbeat and creates energy in its listeners. The momentum pushes the audience and forces them to interact leading to a higher chance of taking action towards the new Kia Soul. Not only does the beat play with the listeners, but also Lady Gaga in general has an effect on the world. Ruth Blatt, a contributor of Forbes, has a passion for music and she claims “Lady Gaga’s unusually strong bond with her fans is one of the reasons she is the highest-ranked musician in Forbes’ list of most powerful celebrities”. Lady Gaga has fans whom love her and because her music is in this commercial, she has a large impact on the audience listening and watching this. The song states, “I live for the applause” , connecting the hamsters with the car. The hamsters represent the car and they both are perfecting their looks in order to make an

What makes a writer successful is the connection they establish with the reader. To do so, they have a great quantity of tools, but the preponderance is rhetorical appeals. In the videos, “Drunk History – Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks”, “Drunk History – John Adams vs. Thomas Jefferson”, and “Breaking News: Some Bullshit Happening Somewhere”, the usage of logos, pathos and ethos varies, resulting in each video having a different impact.…

How could you not be happy seeing a cute, furry, and loving creature wagging his tail for excitement every time he sees you? “Pets can serve as important sources of social and emotional support for “everyday people,” not just individuals facing significant health challenges, according to research published by the American Psychological Association” (Dr. McConnell, American Psychological Association). In the creation of this commercial, “A Boy and His Dog Duck. IAMS. Good for Life”, it is very clear that pure joy and excitement fills the boy's life thanks to his dog Duck. Therefore, in order to persuade the audience, proper use of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos is necessary and this ad perfectly portrays…

What creative techniques are used to attract my attention? They used the famous and iconic John William’s music score “The Imperial March” in the popular franchise of Star Wars movies, the Star Wars movies are popular between American families and there’s certain kind of attachment to them. The kid Max is wearing regalia of the famous villain in the Star Wars movies “Darth Vader” who’s known by his mysterious power of moving things by his mind. They used the kid Max as a kind of nostalgic tool or as away to brings us back to a nice memory that became a milestone in the American culture. The makers of the ad are romanticizing this nice memory through the innocence and ‘cuteness’ of this kid to awe viewers and perhaps send a message that Volkwagen’s cars despite being German but they are still as American as Star Wars or that they are from “The Future” or different galaxy like “Star Wars”, therefore special in some way. Most of the shots are from a low point of view (angles) which is the kid’s perspective, they imitate some shots from the Star Wars movies like when the kid walks in a hallway and the camera follows him from the front and back, so there’s some re-creating of these iconic cinematic moments to easily put us in a Star Wars mood. I think this ad was part of a Star Wars series of ads, that’s a technique to keep people guessing and waiting for another episode.…
