AP Statistics Project Proposal Number 1
Non-bias: Do you prefer chocolate milk over white milk?
Bias: Given that white milk is has important nutritional values, do you still prefer chocolate milk over white milk?
Bias: Would you consider wearing a Speedo to a casual event (not a swim meet) weird or unusual?
How will we apply the surveys to the subjects? The interviewer will enter various stores targeted at certain age groups, and ask (at random) the subject of the age group we are aiming at the questions proposed above. 1. Describe the design of the experiment in detail, including how you will use direct control, blocking, and randomization. You should also discuss why you think your design is a good one? * Blocking: In our experiment, we will block the subjects by age because people of younger ages tend to prefer chocolate milk over white milk, and vise versa for people of older ages. Blocks will consist of young children, teenagers, and adults. * Randomization: We will incorporate randomization within our project by going to stores that target a specific age group (for example, Gymboree is a children’s store as Forever 21 is a store mainly for teenagers, and so on). Within these stores, we will ask subjects (at random) the questions that we have proposed. * Control: We will effectively use the control principle by controlling who asks the questions, what stores we will enter, and the question proposed that does not contain bias. * Why is our design effective/good? We think that our design is a good design because blocking by age isolates the variability attributable to the differences between the blocks so that we see the differences caused by the treatments/surveys more clearly. Also, this can be considered a stratified random sample because blocking by age group creates three different strata, thus allowing us to use an effective type of sampling method. 2. Discuss how you will obtain your subjects. What will be your population

The Alien and Sedition Acts were a series of four bills passed in June and July of 1798 that revealed the disagreements between Federalists and Democratic Republicans. The two parties debated over many things, such as foreign policy, the strength of federal government, and states’ rights. These debates defined the effort to decide our country’s future. Examples of the differences between Federalist and Democratic Republican views are the French Revolution, Kentucky & Virginia Resolutions, and the XYZ Affair. These events all resulted in conflicts of the late 1790’s.…

Ideal respondents to this new survey must be chosen at random. Whether this is done on the streets of Hong Kong or by phone it does not matter as long as every effort is made to receive feedback from a random sampling. While the sampling of the population will be done at random, I do feel there will be respondents who will provide more valuable data than others. Those who I feel will provide increased value to the study will meet the following criteria:…
