Eleventh Grade is a year full of fun, laughter, hard work, and lots of studying. The eleventh graders have been spending numerous hours studying for the ACT and the SAT tests, while trying to balance their school work and social lives. Everyone is focused on school, but the students are also involved in extracurricular activities. This year, the junior class has traveled to Camp Eagle in Rocksprings, Texas and New York City! The ancient Greek Democracy and the ancient Roman Republic might seem like they are the same but they actually differ in some points. A Greek Democracy focuses on voting directly on an issue, while a Roman Republic focuses on voting for representatives. That is mainly what makes a Greek Democracy and a Roman Republic different. But in the end they both end up being similar by giving power to the people.…

Ninth grade so far has been fun but interesting. First, the classes are fun and exiting. Classes are full of fun and we even get some freedom of which classes we want to take. Next, in high school there is a lot of fun school activities. There are ball games, winter week, homecoming week, pep fests, parades, and many other fun things. Finally, the older kids are a lot nicer than I expected. I like the older kids mainly because they are really helpful and most of them are nice. LFCHS is a fun place for ninth graders to start a high school career.…

There is nothing particularly noteworthy about Robert Shawn Keever. He is loud, boisterous, sarcastic, and a man of total depravity. To date he has been in no clubs or sports. He has yet to hold a job, nor do I believe he has the capability to even hold such a responsibility. If it were a matter of GPA, he’d fall short there too as it is 2.3. As a student he has no ambition for higher education and would rather join the military. His relationship with his peers and family can be described as abusive and unruly. In the past he has skipped school and deliberately started fights. Also, he has no faith. This being a nation founded by Jesus would make him an enemy of America and its values. His only saving grace is a profound love for most social studies and a strong sense of loyalty to those who have managed to make friends with him. Thus far he has taken every social studies class Smyrna High School has to offer.…

Let me clear your mind, you always think of the negative when you experience change but it’s not so difficult. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel that was published in 1960, the times where our nation had segregation and injustice amongst the colored and the whites. Racism presents itself in many ways in the town of Maycomb. Some are blatant and open, but others are more insidious. The plot focuses on a lawyer, Atticus Finch, and how he defends a colored man, Tom Robinson, who is wrongly accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell. When they go to trial Tom is automatically a victim of injustice when they find him guilty of rape just because he is black (Normney 5). om Robinson’s trial, and in fact his entire life, was badly affected by racism. It is truly a testament to the corruption of society when a person who has earned a bad reputation is held in higher esteem than a person who was born with it, as is the case with Bob Ewell and Tom Robinson. Even though Tom was obviously honest in his testament, the jury sided with Bob Ewell because he was white. They made this decision despite the fact that the Ewell family was widely known to be a worthless part of society. Jem, not being racially prejudiced, could not understand this mentality. As Atticus pointed out, “If you (Jem) had been on the jury, son, and eleven other boys like you, Tom would be a free man.” (Lee 7).…

Middle school was both exciting and frightening. It was exciting because I was able to switch classes and it made me feel older, however it was frightening because I had to impress more than one teacher and adjust to their teaching methods. The first day of middle school was different because that year my father could not see me off to school. My father died unexpectedly a few weeks before my first day of middle school which only added to the stress. Overall my first day was still pretty exciting because I knew I was going to meet new people. I was excited to see some of my old friends in the same class with me. I thought the work was going to harder since I was older, but it was not much different from elementary.…

On February 16, 2009 a 15 year old chimpanzee named Travis mauled its owner’s friend as she was coming for a visit. The police were called when the chimpanzee even went so far as to attack the police which forced them to shoot the animal several times before the animal finally stopped fighting. (Howard) This is just one of many examples of why these animals are not made to be in a domesticated environment. People have been trying to own exotic or wild animals as pets for a very long time, and some of them actually succeed. Whether it is legal or illegal, some people find a way to be a part of owning an exotic pet. But how they get it is not always the biggest problem. Owners have been known to make life threatening mistakes when handling their wild animals. Most of them are just so oblivious to the animal that they own and the capabilities of that animal that they neglect to do all the things necessary to keep themselves safe, the animals safe, and the community around them safe. Veterinarians and animal rights organizations have informed the public on many occasions how dangerous owning an exotic pet is to the owner and the community it resides in. Exotic animals should never be held as pets because it of the high risk of physical harm to the owner or neighboring people, the diseases they spread, and the harm it brings to them as well.…
