How would you feel if you were a special animal that was bought or raised to be hunted and killed where you’re not supposed to be? Exotic animals are often bought from zoos and/or raised to be hunted or killed in the Texas ranches. If we were to release them back into their natural habitat they will have difficulty in either finding a food source or being able to tell who is a poacher or a wildlife ranger. Animals who have been captive for most of their life are dependent of their caregivers and are not suited to be in their natural habitat. Most animals won’t get accepted into a herd or be able to adapt to that kind of lifestyle which they have never experienced. In the following passages I will explain the main reasons why I strongly believe that animals that have been held in captivity should remain in…

There is no denying how cute a tiger cub, bear cub or any other undomesticated animals are when they are infants. In fact, most people come to believe how wonderful it would be to own such a cute cub, but they fail to remember the menacing threat that these beasts could have to the owner. In numerous states, people can legally own these exotic animals, though some require a permit. Consequently, there have been countless of accidents where either the animal or people have been injured or killed which is why the ownership of exotic animal should be outlawed. Therefore, outlawing possession of dangerous creatures is crucial because the animals need to be out in their natural habitat, owning them is dangerous, and the difficulty of caring for…

Many people enjoy the company of a pet, whether it be a cat or a dog; these animals provide a person with companionship and affection. Pet owners become emotionally invested in their pets and treat them as if they are part of the family. Some pet owners will pamper and shower these animals with affection as well as let them have the run of the house. However, a person needs to remember animals do not function as humans or have the capacity to reason. There are people who believe wild or exotic animals can be domesticated as well as become family pets. When taking care of pets such as a lion or primate these animals require more attention and owner responsibility. There are many states within the United States that have laws banning the ownership of wild animals. However, people are still purchasing exotic animals as pets through the black market. Local communities should not allow residents to own wild animals as companions or breed exotic animals for profit because of the domestic environment, health hazards, as well as the additional financial and social responsibilities associated with owning such pets.…

The problem with exotic pet ownership has been escalating over the years, especially in the last ten to fifteen years alone. Many state governments in the last couple years have been trying to pass laws and different measures to deal with this issues such as an Ohio lawmaker that is proposing a new law that would ban people from owning most exotic animals starting in 2014 (Weekly Reader News Addition) and in Tennessee where lawmakers pitch new exotic ownership rules which would ban the private ownership, import, sale and transfer of most wildlife--regardless of whether or not they are indigenous to the state (DVM Magazine). A few big problems with owning exotic pets is they are often really dangerous and many people cannot provide…

Zoos are like animal insurance, preventing predators from being able to hunt them down. As some may say, zoos are cruel and harsh punishments for the poor little animals that happen to be on display, but zoos are nothing in comparison to the devastating, murderous reality of the forests. According to the “Why Zoos Are Good” article,”They will not suffer from the threat or stress of predators (and nor will they be killed in a grisly manner or eaten alive) or the irritation and pain of parasites, injuries and…

It is true that not all cases of an exotic pet have a negative outcome and the responsible ownership of these animals can happen. Although, this is not always the case: there are dangers involved in owning an exotic animal. Kukol, Zuzana reports in USA Today, "Dangers from exotic animals are low. On average in the United States, only 3.25 people per year are killed by captive animals." It also claims that most of the animals are not "stolen" from the wild, but born in captivity. Although 3.25 deaths may not be a lot, especially when compared to something like the number of deaths daily from a motor vehicle, it is still too many because these deaths are preventable by leaving animals in their natural habitats. The article "Animals Born in Captivity" says, "Wild animals usually prefer to stay away from people; captive raised animals on the other hand are often too familiar and social with humans. For a wild animal, losing its caution of humans is a bad thing, dangerous for the animal and possibly us." When wild animals encounter humans, many foreign germs and infections spread to both the animals and the humans. Similarly, feeding wild animals may attract more animals into a town or near people, which can easily spread diseases and expose both the animals and the humans to foreign, and potentially deadly, germs and…

Over the last few years, the pressure to cage animals in zoos has led to animals losing their instincts, freedom, and behavior. The threats posed by the zookeepers are encouraging anti-zoo activists to push beyond early efforts such as sending zoo animals in the wild to keep them from being captive in zoos. Today, in the interest of keeping animals in their natural habitat, many anti-zoo activists are trying to change how people poorly treat animals. Although there are those that oppose to keeping animals in their natural habitat in the wild, anti-zoo activists should make every effort to send more animals in the wild because doing so will prevent animals from suffering, allow them to be free, and keep them remain in their own natural habitat.…

When people buy exotic animals they don’t realize how much care these animals need; transferring from the wild, to an enclosed structure is a big change, and not a good one. They need special care, appropriate housing, a specific diet, and so on. With all this work average people are not able to provide for the animals. This leads to poor conditions for them, a lot of times they are trapped in small metal cages with no shelter. Situations like this can lead to abnormal animal behavior such as self mutilation. The animals at that point have essentially been driven mad. Cruel and inappropriate treatment is common among exotic pet owners; they are beaten into submission, they will have the animal’s claws and teeth removed and are left alone for extended periods of time almost in solitary confinement. These animals are wild, they cannot handle being in that kind of environment, it is unhealthy, and it is bad for their mental state. When the owners decide that they can’t sufficiently care for them, they give them away to zoos, there isn’t enough room for all of the unwanted animals though, meaning that a lot of times they end up being…
