Baby can suck and swallow from birth.
There are several noises a baby can make, squeaks grunts, and also attempts are made in response to adult stimulation.
Baby becomes familiar to frequent voices.

Baby will use constant ‘jabber’ and may use one word to mean several things e.g. “bis” may mean “give me a biscuit”.
Baby/toddler will now understand simple commands e.g. “Don’t touch, hot”.
Your toddler now likes listening to simple stories or rhymes and will want them repeated several times.

At this stage ( a toddler) vocabulary has increased to about 200 words including the use of pronouns and plurals.
By now your toddler can understand two stage commandments e.g. “ get your socks and put them in the basket”.
Sounds like the telephone or the doorbell will be recognisable and toddler may become excitable, get you to answer or answer themselves. 3-4 years 4-5 5-6 6-7 3-4
It is at this stage your three to four year old can hear you call from another room.
This is also the age where hearing difficulties may become evident.
Vocabulary has increased to around 700 words.
Language is now used to tell about things, ask questions and to engage in conversation.

Co-operate and converse with children in a variety of play settings.
Understand and use a vocabulary of several hundred to a 2000 or 3000 words.
Use conversation to co-ordinate behaviour in small group activities.
