Stages - First Two Years of Life
The mental and physical changes in the first two years of a child’s life are incredible and set the tone for future development. A child grows from a tiny little baby with crying as their only means of communication, to a thriving two year old who has developed their own imagination and personality with a budding vocabulary. According to the BabyCenter website, by the time a child is two they will know about 200 words. The real question is, can you understand all two hundred of them?
Around three months of age, my son Hunter had begun ‘tripoding’, where the baby is sitting up, but supporting themselves with one or both of their arms in front of them. This is something that many babies don’t start to do until closer to 4 or 5 months, according to BabyCenter. He also had excellent head control and was able to roll from his tummy to his back. At birth, he was 7lbs 4oz, but at 3 months old he was 15lbs 2oz and had a 30% increase in length from 19 inches at birth to 25 inches. Hunter could hold a

rattle, and would even sleep through the night (if we let him.) He also learned how to laugh and hasn’t stopped since.
At 6 months of age, Hunter had mastered sitting up on his own and was trying to crawl. He began eating a few solid foods and the vegetables were his favorite, hands down. Hunter had found his feet at 5 months old, and loved playing with his little piggies. Babbling also became something he really enjoyed doing. If Hunter was awake, he wanted everyone to know it. His weight had increased to 21lbs 14oz and he had stretched out to 28 ½ inches. That’s almost a 10 inch difference from what he was when he was first born. He even sprouted his first tooth, and also said his first word, “mama” when he was 6 months old. When Hunter was 9 months old, we had a scare when I could not wake him up from his nap. Everything turned out ok, though we never got an answer as to what exactly happened. His pediatrician was pretty confident that Hunter had a seizure,

Many of us have had the opportunity to observe infants and how they develop through time, whether it is our children, siblings, or just a family friend we can all agree it is extremely interesting to watch children grow. I am currently about 8 months pregnant and I feel it is very important for me to understand how my daughter-to-be will develop. It is important for parents especially to know how a child should grow and mature so they know if their children are on the right track or not. Without knowing how a child is supposed to develop one may never know if their child has a developmental disability or not. The best way to diagnose a developmental disability is the parents observing their children’s behavior and reporting it to their doctor so further research can be made. I have decided to research the developmental milestones of a child from birth to age two because children go through so many very important developmental stages just in those two years.…

The normal childbirth process has three stages. The first stage of labor will begin when uterine contractions start. The contractions should be about 10-15 minutes apart. These contractions will end when the cervix is fully dilated so that the baby's head can pass through. The farther into labor, the more intense and strong the contractions start to get. The uterus contracts more frequently, which causes the contractions to come closer together. The second stage of labor will begin when the head is positioned at the top of the cervical opening. The second stage of labor is known as the delivery. This stage begins when the head has passed through the cervix and into the vagina. This stage ends when the baby come out of the mothers body. This stage can last anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour and a half. The third stage takes only a couple of minutes. In this stage the uterus once again will contract and expel the placenta from the mothers body. There are many different birth strategies. One is a natural birth, this means a birth without pain medication. Another birth strategy is a water birth, this is where the mother delivers in a birthing tub. It can be very soothing for the mother, and ease the pain of child birth. Hypo-birthing is also an option. This is where the mother visualizes a place of comfort and focuses less on the pain they are experiencing. Aromatherapy is also used to soothe the mother during birth. The scents of the different candles relaxes the mother, and makes delivering much easier. Stress hormone secretion protects the infant from oxygen deficiency, and prepares the infant for birth. Vernix Caseosa(skin grease) protects against heat loss.…

She was fed physically by her parents or carers who made choices for them. As she grew she chose her own choice of food. She needed a lot of sleep to keep her awake in the day time and to keep her from being tired when she played. She needed shelter, warmth and security from her parents or responsible adults as she was too young to look after herself. She might have suffered from the common cold, chicken pox, Fever and things like that but nothing serious. She started going nursery and learnt how to write, count and make new friends. She learnt things by miming, playing with toys and with friends, bright colors, cartoons and Educational Programmes. She depended on her parents, and teachers. She liked going school and also did well at school and she also had a happy childhood. Children’s social needs can be met at playgroups and schools as they begin to learn how to share, play and establish friendships. She depended on her parents and teachers. She wouldn’t have liked school on her first day because she was probably nervous and didn’t want to be separated from her parents and family so she might have cried a lot in this situation. As she was young at the time she wouldn’t have liked being…

Robert developed at a rapid pace despite being born prematurely. During a stay with us one weekend, I laid him on his back atop a blanket spread on the floor for him to roll on. He rolled onto his stomach raising his head up; arms swinging out at his sides with legs kicking trying to crawl. He reminded me of a turtle poking out of its shell, slowly inching his way off the blanket. To this day my daughter still calls him turtle after witnessing his attempt to crawl. Once he learns to walk, there is no holding him back; he joyfully goes through life with smiles on his face and laughter in his voice.…
