1. INTRODUCTION

There have been several advances and technology today. This has brought about the creation of Wi-fi, Bluetooth, TiVo, iPod, Podcast, blog, vlog (video web log), wiki, GPS and smart phone. Almost everyday brings about the introduction of new technology terms to be used in the world today. Wireless technology and tiny high capacity computer chips enable fast, on-the-go communication. Talking on the phone, using internet and e-mail connections has enabled communication.

Communication is the process in which a sender creates and encodes a message. The sender then chooses the appropriate channel in which to send the message to the receiver. On receiving the message, the receiver then decodes the sent message and tries to make sense of it. This is a continuous process but perfect congruence is never achieved. Technology used in business communication includes wireless and internet communication, videoconferencing, intranet, cell phones and telephones, email, teleconferencing, fax and electronic bulletin boards.

Major technology trends affect business communication such as portability, specialization and selectivity. These trends increase the consumer’s control of what, when, where and how they send and receive messages. In addition, technology brings new ways of working and collaborating with different people in an organization. Despite the several advantages brought by the use of technology in business, there are several legal considerations and drawbacks brought by the use of each technology. 2. TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
2.1 TELEPHONES, CELL PHONES AND VOICEMAIL
This is the first point of contact that one has with an organization. It is therefore important for organizations to create an image of themselves over the telephone that is friendly, helpful and efficient. Today, cell phones are widely used in business.
