Marketing can be defined as ‘the activity, set of institutions and processes for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners and society at large’ (American Marketing Association, 2007). From this definition it can be seen that marketing is the process by which an organisation communicates with customers to promote, create a sense of value and ultimately sell their concept or product (Gamble, Gilmore, McCartnan-Quinn and Durkan, 2011).
