Summary and theme for The Beginning of Something
Summary: The Beginning of Something by Sue Ellen Bridgers is about a young lady named Roseanne who finds a warm hearted person in someone unexpected. The young lady, or narrator of the story, realizes how much her cousin Melissa needs her when her mother passes away. The conflict of the story is when Melissa becomes depressed because her mom's death.The death of her mother changed the family's feelings making them visit and attend the funeral. Roseanne becomes jealous because of Melissa's beauty. Roseanne later becomes heartbroken while listening to her cousin cry throughout the night. The need of comfort shown from Melissa, shows Roseanne that nobody is perfect and everyone goes through hard times in their life. The two cousins become closer when the funeral comes around. Before Roseanne watched her gloomy cousin sob, she refused to go the funeral, but she figured that going to help melissa fight through it would be best. During Roseanne's trip she becomes closer with her old friend Travis. All of these events changed the way she acted toward her family and their feelings.
