Pet Peeve Speech Example
Pet Peeves
Have you ever seen or heard something that irritated you so bad you just wanted to scream? I’m sure we can all agree that there are certain things that aggravate us beyond belief.
I have many pet peeves, but today I’m going to tell you about three that are especially annoying to me. My first pet peeve is people who talk with their mouth full of food; my second is people who talk on a cell phone while in a place of business; and my third are people who walk extremely slow in Wal-Mart.
Have you ever been in a restaurant and looked at the table beside you and saw a person trying to talk with their mouth full of food? It’s gross right?! I am not sure what makes people think they can chew food and carry on a conversation at the same time. Nobody wants to see what somebody else is chewing. It is very unattractive.
Something else that really works on my nerves is someone talking on a cell phone while they are in a place of business, especially if the atmosphere is quiet. If you are in a place of business, please hang up the phone. Nobody wants to know what you are doing tonight. Please keep your personal business to yourself or learn how to walk outside.
Patience is not something I have a lot of, so getting behind someone who walks extremely slow in Wal-Mart is so annoying. When I go to Wal-Mart, I usually get what I have to get and go, if that is possible. If I get behind someone who is walking slow and won’t get out of the way, I get very frustrated. I realize elderly people are an exception, but I wish the people who walk slow for no reason would learn to move a little faster or get out of the way, because I don’t want to stay in Wal-Mart all day.
I have shared with you some of the things that really annoy me the most: the people who chew like they are cows, the loud cell phone talkers, and the people who take their precious time in Wal-Mart.
If people would learn some manners, a great deal of these situations could be avoided. So, if you are one

When, in the course of my crazy life, it becomes necessary for me to make conversation with other humans, and to hold said conversation and also listen, I must give my undivided attention to person(s) I am talking with. There is one certain element I cannot stand however; and that is listening to people. People telling me what to do with my life, where to sleep, where to sit, people telling me they like my shirt, that they think I’m funny, and some that even have the audacity to call me their “friend”. This is something that cannot go on any further.…

True event: When I was a younger man back in 1973 or 74, I was out in (Royal Oak) near the (Detroit Zoo). I cannot remember the reason I went out there more than likely just joy riding, I use to do a lot of that when I was younger since the age of 18, and mostly I have driven new cars all my adult life. I saw a sign for a delicatessen that offered corn beef sandwiches among others; so I stopped, and went in to buy a sandwich. When I entered there were people already in line placing and receiving their orders and more people came in after me; you did not need to have a number for your turn to place an order. The order taker or waitress a (white female), was doing a good job of calling the correct person for their orders until my turn was up. When my turn came the order taker asked someone for their order that I felt entered after I did, but I saw not sure. Anyway after this person made their order (MY turn), wrong; she asked someone else could she help them, but what she did not know was that me and this person had short small talk while waiting our turn. Instead of stepping up to place an order, this person said; I think gentlemen is suppose next, the order taker said (oh sorry), and asked me (what do you want)! I looked at her and said not a thing from this place, and turned and walked out. As I left I could hear a few people telling her about manners and he was just another customer regardless. Oh did I mention that I was the only person of color in the delicatessen. I was not embarrassed, but angry as a (**********).…

For me, I want to punch anybody who sits there and lets their food hang out of their mouth while rattling off the latest gossip. I'm not the only one who feels that way, "Many a times I just want to walk up to someone when smacking food and smack them." It just grosses me out beyond anything else. I learned the embarrassing way to chew politely. My friend pointed it out while we were at a nice dinner with her parents when I was about nine. Since that day, I've always chewed quietly with my mouth closed.…

Burping and slurping at the dinner table, how disgusting? In our culture such behaviors aren’t acceptable along with eating with our hands or even eating food off the floor after we have dropped it. Much to my surprise, after doing some research, all of those unacceptable behaviors that we have grown up to avoid at the dinner table are accepted by other cultures around the world. Everyone is different, especially our cultures. I mainly discovered that what we find acceptable in our culture as good mealtime behaviors is disrespectful in other cultures. Also, what we find rude other cultures find acceptable at the dining table.…

Being under pressure, however, I was forced to push these apprehensions aside. I decided to stand at the end of one of the busier side aisles, facing out into the main aisle. I stood slightly to the right of the center and started my timer. I didn’t realize, though, that I positioned myself directly in the way of the flow of shopping traffic. For the whole ten minutes I heard people behind me say, “Excuse me,” but I didn’t want to have to start the exercise over so I didn’t move. I felt so embarrassed as the shoppers squeezed past me. Others just did their best to navigate around me without trying to get me to let them by.…

You know that one person that bumps into you but doesn’t have the common courtesy to say excuse me or I’m sorry they just keep walking like it never happened, and wonder why someone is stepping to them rudely. Or that moment you are on the freeway and lanes are merging and it seems like the driver in the next lane seems to have speed up as you are trying to fit into the merge resulting in you having to slow down even more, All though it is not getting that person any faster to their destination. Etiquette is not just about what fork to use other words it’s all about self-awareness and treating others with respect. It’s sad and unfortunate that a lot civility has gone with the wind. Rudeness is on the rise, but it has some things to do with the economy and parenting.…
