Questions | Answers | What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected everyday life? | The term media convergence with regards to technology means the merging of different content in different media channels. An example of that would be books, newspapers, and magazines can now be found on the Internet using any laptop, smartphone, e-reader, or tablet. The lines between traditional media and technology are becoming blurred. As forms of media converge, previously unavailable methods of communication emerge, changing the way we send and receive messages. In the past there were clear lines between radio, TV, printed media, and the internet. Now newspapers and TV programs all have their own websites giving up to date news as it happens. Printed media can be accessed on the internet using an e-reader that gives the conveniences of the internet and electronic display technology. Media convergence has affected everyday life in many ways. In the present time it is all about how to do things as easily as possible. Media convergence has given us a way to easily access everything we need in one place, the internet. This is a good thing in many cases. It allows us to stay in touch with family and friends through social media such as Facebook, instant messengers, and e-mail. We are able to run our business much more smoothly also using e-mail and instant messengers with the ability to send out mass memos and such. These are all great things allowing us to be much more productive and globally connected, but it also has its negative side. While it is great to have this technology to keep many of us all connected, it is also keeping many people (that are in the same house) apart. This also gives people the choice to upload photos and homemade videos, and share them with others around the world.The media convergence has allowed media marketers to consolidate multiple media services such as, cable connections, phone services, television transmissions, and Internet access, under one corporate umbrella. For example, when a company owns more than on media outlet they can have a reporter or producer to create multiple different versions of the same story for multiple media outlets. This helps companies to manage resources and maximize profits.…

It has almost completely taken over every form of our lives.
