October 15, 2013 Interview

I conducted my interview with Rebecca Nault, preschool teacher at Learn Charter school. The interview took place on site in Ms. Nault’s directors office on October 4th at 11:45 pm while her students were down for a nap. Ms. Nault was very forthcoming with information, so I decided to ask her all twenty of my interview questions. During my interview, there were only a couple of instances were she would not expound on her answer. After the interview concluded, Ms. Nault thanked me for taking the time to interview her and having interest in the field of education.

1) What is your name?
“Rebecca Nault” Tell me a little about your background
“I graduated from UW-Madison with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies and Erikson Institute with a MS in Child Development. I was a Developmental Therapist for a few years, then joined Teach For America in 2010. I have been teaching the same grade at the same school since then.”
2) What is your impression of the field of Early Childhood Education?
“I think it is an unappreciated field, and a field that works with children at the most impressionable time in their development. More people need understand the value of Early Childhood Education and help develop the teachers and staff that work with children at this age.”
3) What have you learned about this field that was new or surprising?
“I was surprised at the lack of access to quality programs.”
4) What advice would you give to a “novice” (new person) entering into this field?
1) “Always remember that what you say to a child becomes their inner voice. 2)You should always be respectful of them as a person. 3) Relax, you can only do so much. Just do your best and think about what is in your locus of control. 4) What you are doing is important!”
5) What is your opinion of “professional growth” in this field?
“It is difficult to find quality professional development.”

Listening is arguably the most important way in which to establish a respectful and professional relationship with a child or young person. By listening to what a child has to say, without interruption, conveys to the child that you are in interested in and values what the child has to say. By not interrupting the child, it shows that their views and opinions are not only respected by you, but are also as important as the views and opinions of you themselves. You should also take an active interest in what the child has to say and an interest in the child themselves. For example, what are their hobbies, their interests, their likes and dislikes? .…

Omyon Xavier Roberson, is an 20 year old from Atlanta, Georgia. I choose to interview Mr. Roberson because he isn’t just any other students. If you take a second and look you might see the part of him that’s beyond your expectation. There are a lot of things that make Omyon who he is today, and as much as some might try, he isn’t changing for anyone. Omyon is the type of male that makes me not want to believe that everyone is unique because his individuality is that one of kind. Omyon is the type of male that makes me not want to believe that everyone is unique because his individuality is that one of a kind. I feel that he is real bold and outgoing and he just might talk to anyone. He is a male with vengeance so be careful if you get on his bad side. He can be a little random sometimes, when he bursts out with what he’s thinking. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Omyon Xavier Roberson.…

The interview with a preschool teacher named Tracy Campbell went very well. She has been a preschool teacher for a year and was previously a church preschool director. Tracy described her job as rewarding because of the opportunities to teach young children while impacting their future. For her, a typical day at work involves getting children to focus and having some fun. She encourages them during playtime, a reading circle, activities, and art. Finally, she must ensure that each child is receiving the same amount of assistance and the children with special needs have all the assistance that they need to succeed. Mitchell Barnes, the name held no spectacular feats or accomplishments. Mitchell proved a seemingly ordinary name for an ordinary man. This particular man suffered from a degenerative muscle disorder. When one begins reading an academic work of a man like Barnes, who is born with physical ailments, she would expect to be reading of all he accomplished in life. She would expect to read of incredible accomplishments Barnes had, unfortunately, one such essay lacks existence. After three missed appointments for an interview, I began to lose hope that I would even get to know this man. When interviewed, the twenty-three year old Barnes hadn’t much to offer. His expression full of bleakness and boredom, I knew the information I searched for would not be found easily and may not be found through him. Prior to our meeting, I expected to learn of hopes and dreams. Who I found proved a bland, rather boring man with no drive or compassion for much of anything. This man with Muscular Dystrophy let the sickness define him. I see a man, freed by an electric wheelchair; Barnes on the other hand seemed to not see his chair in this way. The middle-aged Barnes let physical ailment define who he became. Barnes allowed the slightest actions be determined by his non-abilities, not his abilities.…

    My Interview

When I first found out about this assignment I was a little anxious because I didn 't know whom I would interview or how my request would be received. As I consider my options I thought it would be best to interview someone that could offer me some insight as to what it is like to be an elementary or junior high school counselor, which are the two age groups that I would most like to work with. With this in mind, I decided to interview one of my son 's past guidance counselors. This is a woman that I have admired since the first day that I met her. In talking with her I found her to be a very knowledgeable, caring, and open person. She has been in the helping profession for over twenty years and working as a guidance counselor since 1999. Another reason that I chose to interview her was because I believed that she could offer me valuable insight concerning how to be an effective and successful counselor. The purpose for the interview was to find out about her guidance program and her role of the counselor, to get an idea of how much time she spends in various components of the program, to discover how to foster a positive relationship with the teachers and faculty, to learn ways to continue to develop professionally, and to get words of wisdom from an experienced counselor.…

I was interviewing my high school biology teacher Mrs. ******* on Tuesday Oct. 23, 2012 at 11:15am. The place where we had an interview was a ******** which is located on 1************ Newmarket, Ontario ; Phone number is: (******ext. 321 (science department). We talked about some of her background information, her education, and some skills that she is using to be a great teacher. Mrs. Parnham was a teacher in three schools which are: Alexander Mackenzie High School, Milliken Mills High School, and Dr. John M. Denison Secondary School. Mrs. Parnham has a Degree and Honors Degree in Bio Chemistry (Bsci), also she completed BEd (education that every teacher needs), Mrs. Parnham was teaching math once, but she is a science teacher. “I teach mostly biology and science for grade 9th and 10th.” When I asked Mrs. Parnham if she has any other duties in school other than teaching she said: “I was doing cross country coach, track and field coach, Denison Student Counsel Advisor, link crew advisor, CIA (character and action) advisor.” I was a student in Mrs. Parnham’s class and I can tell that she is a great teacher. “Patience, organization knowledge of what you teaching, ability to explain something, firm fair consistence, and most important enthusiasm” she uses these skills and that’s what makes her students get good grades, and knowledge of the subject. I asked about general working conditions she said: “Terrible” she said it as a joke, but who knows maybe she doesn’t like the conditions. Also Mrs. Parnham said: “busy, always under the dead line, lots of variety (unexpected things like be someone’s reference, interview with Kseniya). Lots of marking, have to be able to build great relationship with students and co-workers.” My last question for her was “What are your least and most enjoyable aspects of the job?” Mrs. Parnham answered: “My most enjoyable part is: lots of interaction with people, I can develop great relationships with students, and my least: is marking…
