Methodology Grasmere, Lake District.
Year 10 Geography GCSE students at St James High School in Cheadle got set a hypothesis which was ‘is Grasmere a honey pot centre’ to investigate this further we took a one night trip to The Lake District, Grasmere. The reason why we picked Grasmere is because it is easy access to get there, cheap and not far to travel.
On the 5th of July 59 students and I got the coach to Grasmere at 10am which took round about two hours. Before we arrived at the Youth Hostel in Grasmere, we went on a 2 mile walk in Windermere; this is a small village before Grasmere. I think this was a good idea because you could get a brief idea on passive and active tourists around this area. We had to draw a picture of the upland scenery we could see around us, and label the different characteristics we could name. We got back onto the coach and drove the Youth Hostel we were staying in, dropped our belongings off and went on a 6 mile walk, to see a formed corrie. That day it was 19 Celsius so it was enjoyable to walk in the sun was out but it was humid as there wasn’t a lot of wind. The higher we got the more characteristics we could see. The temperature dropped to 13 Celsius at around 5 o’clock.
On the second say we had to survey people with a questionnaire which will be relevant to the hypothesis, this survey had questions like;
How far have you travelled to get here today?
Where have you come from?
How long are you staying here?
Before we got set on task we had to make sure we were polite and sensible.
Will go around in groups and ask around 20 people and try and even the sex out male/female. baring in mind the two days we are there it isn’t peak season. So no children will be on site, except 59 students. It was far more difficult to find someone who will answer the questions because of two reasons, people needed to get to places and the other reason was because other groups had already questioned them. we did this because it will help
