I WAS A SDWDD
So i have to do a 5 minute speech on what belonging is and stuff. I need a book/movie etc. that has something to do with belonging or not belonging that i can use for examples and relate my speech to. And i for the life of me can't think of anything good!!! which is really annoying cause i know i have probably come across thousands of worthy choices in my life. \
So any book or movie or even poem that has themes of belonging/not belonging would be really helpful. (the only one i can think of at the moment is willy wonka and the chocolate factory.. but i don't really wanna use that.) Also, i would prefer it if it was an at least half-well-known story so that i and all the people listening to my speech can understand. But yeah any suggestions!!!!!! thanks heaps in advance.

oh and p.s. don't think i'm like cheating and you're helping me or anything. You're only giving me ideas, not actually writing the speech for me! :)
The best way to choose a related text for belonging is to find something that fits in well with the topic and something that you also enjoy. That way when you are working on your assessment tasks, or even in the HSC exam, not only will the details be easier to remember, but you are more likely to enjoy the process. Plus choose a movie and you've got a good excuse for when you get sick of studying, because watching the movie is technically still studying for you English exams.

    Belonging Speech Romulus

Good morning, fellow students. I am here today to give you a short presentation on how personal, historical, social and cultural contexts have all worked together to shape my understanding of belonging and not belonging. How would you feel if you were thrown into an entirely different landscape to what you were used to? And were treated as an outsider just because of the colour of your skin, or where you were from? You would feel neglected, alienated, alone. This is the sense of not belonging that is strongly illustrated in both the novel Romulus my father, by Raimond Gaita, and the song Oxford Town written by Bob Dylan. The historical and personal contexts that surround these texts shape and strengthen the concept of belonging inside them. A sense of belonging emerges from connections with people, places, groups, communities and the world as a whole. But the perception of this sense of belonging is shaped entirely by the context that the text was written in.…
