The opening scene of I, Robot shows main character Det. Spooner, played by Will Smith as a less than happy fellow. As the alarm wakes him up in the morning, Spooners looks at himself in the mirror without any expression of joy. The audience is able to tell that Spooner has a complex personality and carries some baggage. In the background you hear "superstitious" playing as a mean to present Spooner as a superstitious man. I think that this movie causes the audience to question if there is such thing as a perfect paradise. Can human beings create something or a place where we are self-sufficient and life if made easier for us? I think that director Proyas would argue that not everything that glitters is gold and that in this case human race should not deposit their faith in robots and trust that they will make life easier for us.
As mentioned earlier Det. Spooner is portrayed as a superstitious guy who refuses to get with the times and give in to the lifestyle of the future where robots are part of the everyday life, making things easier for humans. He lives in a very retro/ early 2000s apartment, he also wears 90s shoes like converse. This is one of the reasons why Dr. Lanning asks for him to investigate his case. He trusts that Spooner's personality and robots view will ignite his suspicion for his death.
I think this movie speaks loudly to the audience because we live in a time where we are obsessed with the future and the possibility of technology creating a perfect paradise for us. In this movie we are able to see how easy is not always better and that technology will not transport us to a perfect Utopia. Human kind is not able to become self-sufficient and the pursue of that can lead to dangerous outcomes.

thI found this movie to be disturbing to watch at some points, but it was mainly sad most of the time. It was one the most powerful movies I have ever seen!
