Second Chances
Carl Band once said, “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” Growing up, I’ve learned to believe in second chances. Throughout my lifetime, I have noticed that every person makes mistakes at various points in their lifetime. As humans, we tend to hold grudges, but what we really need to try is to forgive and forget. Giving people second chances is a great thing to do; but what you do with your second chance is your decision. People can use the second chance to their advantage or they can use it to harm the people they have once hurt. I too have made mistakes in my life, but the people I’ve hurt the most while making these mistakes have always been the ones to forgive me. Three summers ago, I met my current boyfriend and I took advantage of him being there for me; he had given me so much love but I took that all for granted. How we met was strange. One night, I was on a video call with my best friend and randomly a guy appeared on the call; that was the night I met my boyfriend. At the beginning, the conversation was so awkward because, all he was doing was talking to my best friend, and finally she introduced me to him. She had told me that they meet through mutual friends and became close. After we got confortable with each other, we talked for hours about the most random topics all night long; I had never felt like I had a connection with someone like I did with him. After that night, we were inseparable; we talked constantly to each other. Regardless of not having anything to talk about or have the most pointless conversation, we could stay on the phone for hours and it just felt right. As time went on, I thought I had feelings for him and we finally decided to be together. The first month was just what I had imagined, but as school started, we slowly drifted apart. Living in two different states was

Despite all the mistakes a person makes shouldn’t forgiveness always be achievable? Kit forgave many people in her life, she forgave her father even after everything he put her through. Kit forgave her mother for not trying hard enough and she forgave many people that entered her life and made mistakes as well. In the novel “Baygirl” by Heather Smith the theme is that there is always room for forgiveness.…

Magnuson and Enright provide research that show strong evidence for the benefits associated with using a “road map” to learn how to forgive someone and also on how to receive forgiveness. Their evidence suggests that those who have forgiven or received forgiveness also have significant reductions in anger, depression, anxiety, grief, and post-traumatic stress symptoms and increases in self-esteem, hope, positive attitudes, environmental mastery, and finding meaning in suffering . The model that is proposed consists of multiple levels of forgiveness education which takes place at fixed times throughout each year in order…

Everyone deserves a second chance, and those who take advantage of them have marvelous opportunities in store. As Zamperini so well put: “That vision of my possible future, and the fear of being labeled a hopeless case, finally shocked me into considering that maybe, just maybe I’d taken the wrong path.”(Zamperini 18) Fear can be a powerful motivator in turning one’s life around. By realising his personal foibles Zamperini takes steps to turn…

Everyone that does something bad ends up doing something good in life. With every mistake there is a lesson. If you don’t learn a lesson then you didn’t make a mistake. At the time of this aphorism’s composition, Morrie was more optimistic than ever, despite his affliction with ALS slowly crippling him. Morrie used his condition of being close to death to formulate small philosophies of life, this aphorism was one of them. I selected this aphorism because it illustrates how although most people emit an aura of normalcy around them, they struggle with their personal internal conflicts, battling with themselves wondering why they made this or that choice or all the opportunities they missed. The hourglass demonstrates acceptance and consideration of the past, with its falling sands…

A second chance, in my opinion, is one of the best things that can be given. When given a second chance, you learn how to improve your life. After all, we can learn from our mistakes. In the media we hear of many people being given another chance, children being reunited with parents and people narrowly escaping death and becoming better people. In the novel Playing for Pizza, the author, John Grisham illustrates the idea that being given a second chance teaches you valuable life lessons. Rick Dockery, the protagonist, learns much about life lessons and their effect after having been given a second chance. Life lessons are important. In this novel the author teaches the reader that you must cherish the happy moments, focus on happiness not monetary gain, and find security in a home that you can call your own.…

The source is about forgiveness, love and not holding a grudge. The main arguments of the source is why has this person chose this particular road to travel and what will his life become if he does not change the course. The author’s purpose is to remind us all that we have not always done the right things in life, but change is possible within us; we just have to let it come out. The goal of this source is to inform people about forgiveness and not holding grudges towards people. This source is not reliable because it does not have an author. I will not include this in my rhetorical analysis essay because it does not seem factual…

I believe in hope. I’m not talking the kind of hope you have when you are “hoping” for a new car to just appear in your driveway, or the kind of hope you have when you “hope” for a new job. No. I am talking about the hope that is necessary for survival. That hope which allows you to persevere through hardships in life because you believe-you know-that there is something better waiting on down the road. This is the hope I believe we all must have, and I found this hope for the very first time when I was just 12.…

    I Believe in Forgiveness

I never really understood the meaning of forgiveness. When people hurt me or treat me badly I always thought the best way to handle it is to hold it in. I never showed anger on the outside but just kept it all in. Instead, I let it boil inside of me. My kind act toward those who hurt me was a shield from my pain. Most of my kind act was at my mother. I blamed my birth mother for every relationship I have ever been in that ended with my hurting the guy or me thinking I am just going to be like my mother and leave him for the next person. Over the years, her actions and mishaps became the victim for my own actions. The fact that I have not yet become a divorcee like her was justification for her being irresponsible, dishonest, and ungrateful. Throughout the years of struggle, dysfunctional relationships, and little to no relationship, I hardly took responsibility for anything that I had done. I laid all my relationship troubles on my birth mother. I call her my birth mother because I never grew up with her but I have met her from time to time. She gave me to my dad when I was seven years old because of another man. I blame my relationship trouble on her because she never had a solid relationship for me to learn from. She…
