Fahrenheit 451 Essay Example
The book “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury involves a corrupt society. The protagonist of the book, Montag, found it a pleasure to burn in the beginning that is. By the middle of chapter he begins to read books and question them. At the closing stages, he realizes that books are what help keep people rational. Montag transforms noticeably through out the book. In this corrupt society, firemen don’t work for good anymore but evil. Montag has been a fireman for 10 years now. “His hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history” (3). This demonstrates that he did his job and never has questioned it. He seemed to be okay with his job. Later, Clarrise meets Montag for the first time and illustrates her colorful thoughts. “ I heard once that a long time ago houses used to burn by accident and they needed firemen to stop the flames” (8).
At this point, Montag has never met anyone that was never deathly afraid of a firemen and question there job at that matter. He is taken away on her insights in life. This conveys his later takes on life and becomes interested on her other thoughts. No too much later, Montage starts to get curious and questions his corrupt culture.
Not long after Montag meets Clarrise, Bradbury starts to show him changing. “Nobody listens to me anymore. I can’t talk to the walls because they’re yelling at me. I can’t talk to my wife; she listens to the walls” (83). This comments on his feelings of loneliness and that he has no one to talk to him because of technology in his society. He realizes that he cannot alienate his feelings for any longer and presents himself on being fed up with this society. “Montag’s hand closed like a mouth, crushed the book with wild devotion, with an insanity of mindlessness to his chest”(37).
