E 10 B USEFUL TIPS for PAPER I 1. An E10B Exchange has 4 main blocks: The Connection unit, Switching Net work, Control units and Operation & Maintenance Centre.

4. Traffic Handling capacity: 4,000 Erlangs.
5. Maximum 45,000 lines and 5000 circuits can be connected with one exchange.

9. E10B system can be used for Local Exchange, Local Transit (or) Tandem Exchange, TAX and ILT.
10. One Subscriber connection unit (URA) provides for the connection up to 1024 sub lines with a traffic level of 96 Erlangs.
11. A Distance URA (URAD or CSED) is connected to the main exchange by 2,3 or 4, 30 channel 2Mb digital PCM links.
12. A local or distance URA for 1024 subscribers is housed in a single Rack.
13. In one XEJ16 card 16 ordinary 2-wire subscribers can be connected.
14. In one XEJ8 card 8 discriminated (home metering and battery reversal) subs can be connected.
15. Group of 16 UR’s are called One GUR and Maximum 192 UR’s are possible in E10B exchange
(ie) 12 GUR’s.
16. Each NE (equipment number) is scanned once in 4 msec.
