Density of Solutions Lab
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab was to find out the densities of the known and unknown Solutions that were given to us. This can be found by dividing the mass by the volume of the Solutions. The other purpose of this lab was to perfect our skills in finding out the percentage error, uncertainties, random error, and systematic error.

Variables:
Independent: Mass Percentage of Solution (KCl); Unknown Solution; Temperature
Dependent: Density

Materials:
10.00 mL Graduated Cylinder
KCl solutions: 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%
1 unknown
Analytical Balance
Thermometer
Transfer pipets/beakers (upon request carefully think the volume that you consider would be most appropriate)
50 cm3 burette
Stand
Clamp

Procedure:
Goggles and aprons must be worn at all times in the lab! No gloves needed!!
A. Determinations of the density of solutions of known and unknown concentration
1. Your instructor has prepared KCl solutions of the following percentages by mass: 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Make a mass determination for 10.00 cm3 of each solution, using an analytical balance and your burette. Be certain to record the temperature for each solution as you test its density.
2. Make a mass determination for 10.00 cm3 of the unknown solution, again recording the temperature for each solution as you test the density.
B. Data Processing
1. Your raw data should be organized in a table designed by you in your lab report (Have this ready before entering the classroom).
