Declamation- Perks of being a Wallflower
“Once on a yellow piece of paper with green lines he wrote a poem
And he called it "Chops" because that was the name of his dog
And that's what it was all about

And his teacher gave him an A and a gold star
And his mother hung it on the kitchen door and read it to his aunts

That was the year Father Tracy took all the kids to the zoo
And he let them sing on the bus

And his little sister was born with tiny toenails and no hair
And his mother and father kissed a lot

And the girl around the corner sent him a
Valentine signed with a row of X's and he had to ask his father what the X's meant

And his father always tucked him in bed at night
And was always there to do it

Once on a piece of white paper with blue lines he wrote a poem
And he called it "Autumn" because that was the name of the season
And that's what it was all about

And his teacher gave him an A and asked him to write more clearly
And his mother never hung it on the kitchen door because of its new paint

And the kids told him that Father Tracy smoked cigars
And left butts on the pews
And sometimes they would burn holes

That was the year his sister got glasses with thick lenses and black frames
And the girl around the corner laughed when he asked her to go see Santa Claus
And the kids told him why his mother and father kissed a lot
And his father never tucked him in bed at night
And his father got mad when he cried for him to do it.

Once on a paper torn from his notebook he wrote a poem
And he called it "Innocence: A Question" because that was the question about his girl
And that's what it was all about

And his professor gave him an A and a strange steady look
And his mother never hung it on the kitchen door because he never showed her

That was the year that Father Tracy died
And he forgot how the end of the Apostle's Creed went

And he caught his sister making out on the back porch
And his mother and father never kissed or even

“First in war, First in Peace, and First in the hearts of his countrymen.” These were the famous words stated by Henry Lee about George Washington at his eulogy, which demonstrated the significance of one of the greatest Americans. George Washington was extremely pivotal for the triumph of the American Revolution due to strategic battle plans, leadership skills, and his sense of patriotism. He was a master of military strategy; probably crafted during the French and Indian war. General Washington would constantly flank the British during battles and surprise the British, which led to capturing of troops or British retreat. Furthermore, he was an encouraging leader. The men trusted him because of his valor. During one of the major battles,…

    - The book opens in 1991, when Charlie writes a letter to some unknown person who "didn't try to sleep with that person at that party" even though they could have. He tells us that he will call people by different names, so as to reserve his anonymity. I like that he opens the book like this because it gives us a hint as to the moral center of Charlie. I also, personally, believe that he is writing to another male, which is interesting in itself.…

The Decembrists Rebellion occurred in December of 1825 after the death of Tsar Alexander I. Many Guards’ officers and elitists took the opportunity of Alexander’s death and the confusion of who should inherit the throne and attempted to overthrow the government and create a republic for Russia. Early in Alexander’s reign, he talked a great deal about granting a constitution for Russia and also freeing the serfs. The people of Russia had high hopes for what could be done, but when Alexander refused to give up his power over the Russians, they fought back. After his death, it was uncertain as to which one of Alexander’s brothers became the new tsar of Russia, enabling a rebellion to occur in the confusion. I will argue that the two main events that led to the Decembrists Rebellion was Alexander I’s refusal to grant Russians a constitution and legislature and the confusion as to who became the new tsar after his death.…

On September 17, 1796, George Washington’s Farewell Address was published. It was not a document that was read in Congress but a document that was published in the newspaper. In George Washington’s Farewell Address, there are many relevant themes that unfold in the document, but there are three distinct themes that are more prevalent and stick out in the readers mind as well as what Washington wanted to get across to his readers. Setting the stage for all future presidents, George Washington makes his announcement that he would not be seeking a third term of presidency. Following his announcement that he will not be seeking another term of office and retires, he summons for National Unity. He then offers advice on how to accomplish this ultimate goal as a united country. The three major themes in George Washington’s Farewell Address are his retirement, his warning against the danger of factions of political parties, and warning against permanent foreign alliances.…

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were the first and the third presidents of the United States, respectively and both were established presidents in their own ways. In George Washington’s Farewell Address he advised Americans to not get entangled within foreign countries’ problems and conflicts and to not have everlasting alliances and treaties. Washington also did not like the idea of having diverse political parties, and he also stressed the magnitude of religion and morality. Thomas Jefferson, in his first Inaugural Address states that a superior government will be able to permit its citizens to be well mannered, but at the same time let them organize themselves in what they desire to do. Jefferson also says that all principles will never change. Although they were both highly respected and regarded to as some of the greatest presidents in American history they didn’t always have the same opinions on what would be best for the growing nation.…

These are the vows I have yet had the chance to say and the words I rarely say aloud. I will always be better with showing you my love, then speaking it. This gift is my way of saying I love you without having to say a word and showing my devotion to our future together. I have known this fact and feeling since the first real date we had (not Slick Willy’s). The hope chest was the true beginning and the first time I had the opportunity to say I love you with my hands in my own way.…

George Washington's Farewell Address was published On September 19, 1796. In his address, Washington began by heeding the citizens of America to hold fast to the Union and the Constitution. Washington emphasized the necessity of staying unified as a nation, claiming that their independence and longevity was centered around being unified as a nation, which meant abandoning feuding political entities within the nation. He continued his letter by stating that the people had the right to change the law, as long as it is only done through constitutional amendments. Washington also stated that if the governmental law is unconstitutional, citizens should have the right to nullify the act or law. Continuing from his initial statement, Washington once again emphasized the danger of sectionalism and the differing political parties. He also restates his belief in the separation of powers and checks and balances, which were written in the Constitution.…

“If you ever wonder why bad things happen to good people, it’s because God knows they’re capable of handling it.” Reading this quote makes me think of someone who was very special in my life, because she was able to handle things anyone else might think are unbearable. That person was my grandma Marilyn Doyle. She had many influences on me, a few are how she had such an open heart, was very accepting, and she was very confident in what she believed in. It’s incredibly difficult to put into words how much she really meant to me. She had a genuine smile, which flashes into my head every time I think of her. She was a very strong-willed, independent, and a loving person. Although I didn’t get to spend as much time with her as I would have liked to, I felt as though we had a very special relationship.…
