Cell Organelle Worksheet
Cell Organelle Worksheet
Organelle Nucleus
Where found (plant/animal/both)
In animals it’s in the center of the cell while in plants it’s found in the cytoplasm.
What it does in the cell (functions)
It maintains the integrity of the genes and controls the activities of the cell.
Something that performs the same function in the “real world” It works like a CPU sending out messages.
Organelle Nucleolus
Where found (plant/animal/both)
For both animal and plants it’s within the nucleus of the cell.
What it does in the cell (functions)
To transcribe and modify rRNA and integrate ribosomal proteins to form immature ribosomes.
Something that performs the same function in the
“real world” Like an oil refinery taking crude oil and making it into gasoline.
Organelle Cell Membrane
Where found (plant/animal/both)
In animals it’s in the outer most layer of the cell and in plants it’s inside the cell wall
What it does in the cell (functions)
To protect the cell from its surroundings.
Something that performs the same function in the “real world” Like a Ziploc bag.
Organelle Cytoplasm
Where found (plant/animal/both)
The thick liquid residing between cell membrane holding organelles except for nucleus.
What it does in the cell (functions)
Holds the organelles together it also acts as a buffer protecting the cells genetic material.
Something that performs the same function in the “real world” Like hair gel holding things into place but not letting the outside elements penetrate.
Organelle Ribosome
Where found (plant/animal/both)
Free ribosomes are found throughout the cytoplasm while attached are connected to ER.
What it does in the cell (functions)
Read and translate the cells genetic codes then reproduce the proteins that the code represents.
Something that performs the same function in the “real world” Like a calculator.
Organelle Mitochondria
Where found (plant/animal/both)
Found in the cytoplasm
What it does in the cell (functions)

Both processes take place inside the cells. In contrast, The site of photosynthesis is chloroplast, while the sites of cellular respiration are cytoplasm and mitochondrion. The chloroplast, which has two membranes around a central aqueous space, is found mainly in mesophyll cells forming the tissues in the interior of the leaf. The chloroplast is made of grana, thylakoid, and stroma. Chlorophyll, which is a green pigment, is located in the chloroplasts. The mitochondrion also has two membranes, the outer membrane and the inner membrane. Inside the inner membrane is the matrix, folded by cristae. Both chloroplast and mitochondrion also contain DNA and RNA, and they are found only in eukaryotic cells.…

Eukaryotic cells are much more intricate than prokaryotic cells. The first thing observed is the assortment of structures in the cytoplasm. The fluid filled region between the nucleus and the plasma membrane. These structures along with the nucleus are the organelles, each having a specific function in the cell. The organelles are by membranes divided in proficient sections .The plant cell is made up of a rigid thick wall. Cell walls protect cells and help maintain their shape. The cell walls of the plant contain polysaccharide cellulose. An important organelle found in plant cells but not animals, is the chloroplast, where photosynthesis takes place. Plant cells also have a large central vacuole a compartment that store water and chemicals.…

Cells have many parts and functions. The most important thing in a cell is the Nucleus. The Nucleus acts as the “brain” of the cell, and contains DNA. Inside of the Nucleus is where the Nucleolus is located. Made up of RNA and proteins, the Nucleolus’ function is to create Ribosomes. The Ribosomes is where protein synthesis takes place, which means they create proteins. Another important organelle in an animal call is the Cytoplasm. It is a jelly like substance inside the Cell Membrane that keeps the organelles in their place. Along side the Cytoskeleton, the Cytoplasm provides structure within the cell. Everything in the cell is held together by the Cell Membrane. It also works to control what travels in and out of the cell. A real life example of how the Cell Membrane works is in skin cells. In a skin cell the Cell Membrane works to prevent viruses and bacteria from entering the body. Other less important parts of the cell are things like Lysosomes, Vacuoles, and Spicuoles. Though all are important, some organelles have less important functions than others.…

Plants and Animals are different in several different ways. Their structural complexities are almost completely opposite in terms of the roles that their “organs” have. Plants are more independent than animals; animals tend to be dependent on other aspects of life to survive. From internal cells to external mobility and appearance, plants cells having cell walls and animal cells don’t. Plants and animals are very different in many ways.…
