INTRODUCTION

Bubble Tea was invented in Taiwan in the 80’s when tea brewers started to add tapioca pearls to their teas. This novelty was well received customers and the drink became quickly popular in the entire country. A decade later, bubble tea started to spread among most parts of East and Southeast Asia. Nowadays the drink is remarkably popular within the Asian communities of Australia, Canada and the United States. But the term “bubble tea” is a very general term for what it represents; depending on the ingredients used, one can choose from a wide range of bubble teas, all different from each other.

The beverage is based on either a type of black or green tea, and according to one 's preference other flavours can be added, such as syrups, powders or fresh fruits. When adding flavor, the tea and flavoring needs to be shaken well for a good all around taste. This forms bubbles in the drink, and this is where the name "bubble tea” comes from. Furthermore, extras like tapioca pearls or other flavoured pearls and jelly can be poured in, and you can drink it cold or hot.

Bubble tea is the hottest drink in Asia today, growing in popularity each and every day. While this type of tea has been covered in numerous magazines and newspapers, people are still learning about this funky new drink. In fact its unique presentation makes people interested in what the buzz is all about.

Although it arrived before coffee, its popularity was slower growing thanks to the unstable supply and resulting high prices (186). Just as in China, tea started out as a medicinal drink in Britain. Dutch doctor Cornelius Bontekoe voiced: “We recommend tea to the entire nation, and to all peoples! We urge every man, every woman, to drink it every day, if possible, every hour” (186-187).…

In case you guys haven't heard, there is a big drink craze going on right now. It's called Boba Tea, also known as Bubble Tea or Pearl Tea made of tapioca balls. Boba (Tapioca) milk tea has been very popular in Asian communities for a few years already. The term "Boba,” is roughly pronounced in Mandarin it literally meant bubble tea and in my own interpretation of history, I surmise that the name wasn't just derived from the addition of bubble-like tapioca balls but its common preparation that the bubble tea was made in a cocktail shaker (Wentz). They are big, soft, and chewy tapioca balls that sit at the bottom of your boba drink. You slurp the gelatinous balls through a huge wide straw and chew on them while you drink. It's both a refreshing beverage and healthy snack in one! Boba drinks are great for diets because they are low in calories and filling, like a small meal. It's quite an interesting experience that you'll love once you try it. The whole part that you eat your drink, it’s very exciting and enjoyable.…
