A standard which aims to normalize the definition of a Cockpit Display System (CDS), and the communication between the display and User Applications (UA) which manage aircraft avionics functions

Borne from requirements derived by the avionics industry
– Aircraft manufacturers and suppliers
• Airbus, Boeing GE, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Dassault


Initial version released 2001
• First adopted on Airbus A380
• Five supplements released subsequently through 2013



Objectives called out explicitly by A661 Committee



Minimize costs for new display capabilities
