Class Act has concluded that the full agreement consideration of $5 million should be recorded as revenue upon signing the agreement. I do not think this is appropriate method to recognize revenue. According to FASB, a company would apply the following five steps to achieve the core principle: (1) identify contract with the customer. (2) Identify separate performance obligations. (3) Determine transaction price. (4) Allocate transaction price. (5) Recognize revenue when performance obligation is satisfied. Class Act recognized all $5 million up signing the agreement, how about if the performance of Broadway Venues doesn’t satisfy the agreement. The article shows that the agreement is silent as to whether any payments are refundable if the tour never commences.…

I have selected Apple as the company that I will be following financially for the duration of Accounting 561. Not only am I a passionate Apple user, I also believe in how the company develops, creates, and markets their product lines for consumer use. They have created products that are so complex at their core with an extremely simple user experience, which has been nothing short of remarkable to watch from the time I was a child through adulthood. I look forward to studying the company and their financials further as we dive deeper into Accounting 561.…

Current liabilities are defined as: “Debts due to be paid with cash or with goods and services within one year, or within the entity’s operating cycle if the cycle is longer than a year.” (Hongren, Harrison & Oliver, 2012) These liabilities fit into three categories: Current liabilities of known amount; current liabilities that must be estimated; and contingent liabilities. According to the matching principle of accounting, expenses and revenues need to be reported during the same period that they are earned. This can be difficult if the exact amounts are not known. This is the purpose behind estimated and contingent liabilities. In order to provide accurate financial reports companies must record revenues and their associated expenses during the same period so that assets are not overstated and liabilities are not understated. It is imperative that the financial reports are as accurate as possible because decision makers use them to determine the course of action that businesses are to take.(Davis, 2011) With the accuracy of the reports in mind, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has formulated the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) which are procedures and guidelines that “ govern how accounts measure, process, and communicate financial information.” (Hongren et al., 2012)…

An item cannot be an intangible asset unless it is an asset in the first place, that is to say the intangible assets should meet the definition of the asset based on IASB Conceptual Framework which contains three main criterions: control, future economic benefits and identifiable (Sacui and Predișcan, 2011). Therefore, whether the item meets the three criterions are the first requirements and the difficulties to recognize an intangible asset. Firstly, the identifiable of an asset is that “it is capable of being separate or divided from the entity and sold, transferred, licensed, rented or exchanged” (IAS38). So as the intangible assets, it also should be separable from the entity or other rights and obligations. However, the intangible assets are lack of physical substance, the requirement of “identifiable” is one of the difficulties the entities will meet. Then the accountancy standards require that the company must be able to control the item’s future economic benefits. At last, there must be an expectation of future economics and the intangible assets should be capable of attributing directly or indirectly to future net cash flow (Sacui and Predișcan, 2011). Without selling the intangible asset, it is nearly impossible to determine whether the future cash flow mainly due to the intangible assets or the operating…

What makes a large organization like Wal-Mart financially successful? One could say it is the result of outstanding personnel or perhaps a strong determination to succeed. These factors certainly contribute. However the key to financial success in organizations lies in good accounting. Since early civilization began, accounting has been an important part of our financial transactions. In today’s world our use of modern accounting systems and accurate financial statements are critical components that make modern organizations successful. To facilitate understanding of this point one must understand how modern accounting systems have changed organizations, why accurate accounting is important, and how both factors contribute to organizational success.…

American international relations are extremely scattered, and when examined can be interpreted in many different ways. This may be because there is perhaps a blend of these major schools of American foreign policy in all of our international relations. The major schools that will be used as lenses are isolationism, liberal internationalism, Kissingerian realism, democratic globalism, and democratic realism. I am going to use these lenses to examine how the liberation in Iraq was handled, and what foreign policy was mainly used.…
