The ‘Pearl of the Orient’, Penang, is a very well-known vacation destination. Penang’s original name was ‘Prince of Wales’ Island but it was later changed to Pulau Pinang, meaning ‘Island of the Betelnut’. A melting pot of various cultures, Pulau Pinang has a variety of attractions to offer to its visitors whatever their preferences are. While soaking in the sun at one of the many beautiful beaches is a must, visitors must bring along their most comfortable walking shoes because there is a whole new world to be explored in the quaint nooks and crannies of George Town . Offering the best of Asia, Penang 's sights and sounds reflect the colourful heritage of her many races and the pride of her people. Be it lush tropical gardens or ornately designed temples and unique heritage buildings, Penang will give you a glimpse into a world where nature, tradition and history blend into a rich cultural tapestry. Because of that, my teacher organized a cycling trip around Penang Island. So, I decided to join the cycling trip along with my 49 schoolmates’ and 2 teachers who will escort us. We gathered around 8 o’clock in the morning at the Tanjung Bungah. We were lucky because the weather was fine and sunny. The golden rays of the early morning sun brought much warmth and cheer. My friends and I was so excited and thrilled to wait for the trip to start. Before we start our journey, En.Hamdan, who is the trip organizer’s, gave us a briefing about safety and places that we are going to visit. We start our journey at 9 a.m. Our first destination was Wat Chayamangkalaram which is a Siamese temple. It is just a stone’s throw away from Tanjung Bungah. The temple is well-known with its unique architecture design. This Thai architecture houses a 180-foot gold-plated statue of the reclining Buddha, Pra Buddhachaiya Mongkul - said to be one of the longest in the world. The interior of the temple is decorated with images of Buddha covered with gold foil. Siamese, local people and

The beauty that radiates from the temple is a wonder feeling that left me with a jaw dropping moment. It also gave off a sense of peace and calm, and a feeling of being safe. As I approached the temple it has lovely green gardens to both sides, with little Buddha’s everywhere and a wise saying to the right. It stated, “the best thing in the world is happiness, the noblest deed in the world is forming affinities”, I knew at that moment, I was in a peaceful place. There were stairs leading up to the temple, and I wanted to make sure I took all of them. As I approached the first building known as the Bodhisattva Hall, the delightful smell of the incents burned for the Dharma protectors, and the two green dogs, known as the guardians who are meant to protect, as well. Inside this hall are five statues that are Buddha’s in training that each has a specific significance. Samantabhadra Bodhisattva is a symbol for disciple and practice in our daily lives. Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva has commited himself to taking away suffering. Maitreya Bodhisattva, also know as the Happy Buddha, simply means prosperity and generosity. Avalokitesvara (Guanyin) Bodhisattva symbolizes compassion and loving-kindness. Manjusri Bodhisattva symbolizes great wisdom and the teachings of staying away from wrongdoing. I observed prayer and offerings in this hall. For twelve dollars you can purchase a plate with fruit, a flower, candy, and bracelet…

The experience in travelling was the most unforgettable experience that a man has. Travelling to own city, inside and outside, as long as the enjoyment never fade out. Visiting to destinations like Palawan, Boracay, Manila and Cebu, to their white beaches, colourful festivals, religious churches, and different cultures are the things that everyone human beings must have. Histories, different people and landmarks, man should learn from these. We learn through travelling better than reading books because by travelling we experience the real life. As the movie “ Gulliver’s Travel” who Lemuel Gulliver travelled different variations of places, to huge or small, to elevated or land, he shared his experience to his people but the public didn’t believe in his journey but still he fight for it even if he looks crazy. Even we ordinary people exaggerates so much in sharing our experience to those who did not travel yet.…

The main building is the central ubosoth, which houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha. The legendary history of this Buddha image is traced to India, five centuries after the Lord Buddha attained Nirvana, till it was finally enshrined in Bangkok at the Wat Phra Kaew temple in 1782 during Rama I's reign (1782–1809). This marked the beginning and raise of the Chakri Dynasty of the present Kingdom of Thailand (the present head of the dynasty is King Rama IX.[1]) The Emerald Buddha, a dark green statue, is in a standing form, about 66 centimetres (26 in) tall, carved from a single jade stone (Emerald in Thai means deep green colour and not the specific stone). It is carved in the meditating posture in the style of the Lanna school of the northern Thailand. Except for the Thai King, no other person is allowed to touch the statue. The King changes the cloak around the statue three times a year, corresponding to the summer, winter, and rainy seasons, an important ritual performed to usher good fortune to the country during each season.[1][2][3]…

    The best trip ever

It was March 15, 1997. The time too early to remember. What was clear however, was the fact that I was soon going to be on my own in a country where I did not know the language or the people that I would be meeting there and staying with. The adrenaline rushed through me as I packed the last of my things and ran out of the door. I closed the door to my house and jumped in the car. The idea of leaving America and going to Japan seemed to really not have hit me yet, but now that I look back I know that I had to feel it. I think that the things that I was feeling was such a blob of mixed emotions that I really did not know how to feel so I will just say that I was excited. At the airport I met my best friend and two other friends of mine from school. We would all be traveling together, most all the time. The only things that would really be different would be where we lived and who we would live with. As the flight, Northwest number 69 to Detroit was called I could hardly wait and I jumped up, not being able to wait to board. We needed to travel to Detroit to get our connection flight to Osaka, Kansai International Airport. As soon as the plane took off it landed. Detroit was a very quick flight, only about an hour. Being a little nervous about not having enough time to make our flight I urged everyone to hurry along and to try and walk fast so that we could make our connection. Little did I know to my surprise after literally storming through the airport, the flight was delayed. Well that was okay, because we had three hours to do whatever we wanted, just the four of us in the Detroit Airport. Well we shopped, and we ate lunch. After a considerable amount of time, we boarded the plane, and off to Japan we went. I think that I knew how much trouble I was in when I heard four different meals, and five movie choices come across the loud speaker. The estimated flying time from Detroit to Osaka was about thirteen and one half hours. No big deal. I love sleeping really I…

    A Bus Ride

Sunny, calm, palm trees blowing. It was just a regular Saturday Bermuda, morning. Fifteen years young, and not a care in the world, riding the pink and blue into town. The air was crisp, and the seniors perfume sang through the air. Mothers continued the tedious job of hushing babies to sleep. The windows were open, and as the bus sped across the limestone walls, the trees fell in. Some trees hit passengers in the face, and some passengers didn't seem fazed. Sitting in the row before the very back, was I, with my ear phones plugged into my ears bumping to Drakes new album. As we neared Southampton parish, on the south shore there were mounds of people that I had never seen before. Mounds and mounds of them. Sun burnt, sandy, with various hats on of all shapes and sizes, and they smelt of sun block, salt water and sweat. The bus was half way full, and I was one of the few who had an empty seat next to them. How I dreaded for a stranger to sit next to me. As the bus came to a complete stop, the people I had never seen before spilled into the bus, like orange juice into a glass on a summer afternoon. As I hoped and prayed that they would over look the seat next to me, I was wrong. They didn’t, they sat so close, and their sandy legs touched my new blue Levi jeans. I squirmed in my seat, closer and closer to the window, hoping that every stop was my next stop. I guess my efforts went in vain. The stranger’s big duffle bag behind me swung and hit me in the head. “OUCH!” I let out a big yelp, and rubbed my head. They said nothing, noticed nothing, and I guess after that I felt nothing. My stop was next, I was overjoyed to get off. And I never saw that stranger again.…

Hello, my name is Harry Bailey and I have recently went on a trip to Canterbury with 29 very unique pilgrims. The trip was interesting and exciting to say the least. I definitely enjoyed meeting and interacting with these pilgrims and having the opportunity The weather could not decide between sunny or rainy on most days, but no matter what it was it was always hot. Some of the pilgrims came on the trip with impairments, but got the chance to get them fixed. The cook was able to get his knee fixed, the wife of bath is able to hear through her ear again, but we couldn’t find anybody to help with the summoner’s warts. He was unsurprisingly upset by that and caused tension between him, the cook, and the wife of bath.…

When someone says to their parents, “You guys want to pay for a trip to England for me, don’t you?” and they say yes, then a certain amount of worry comes to that person immediately preceding the flight out of the country. Will I like England? Will I learn anything? Will I enjoy all the places I saw on TV? Will the British hate me? Am I going to hate it and blow several thousand euros (well, pounds when I exchange it) my parents spent on me for a favor I was joking with them about and feel incredibly guilty when they ask how it was and I’m forced to say, “I hated it” and “Great Britain is overrated” and then feel terrible the rest of the summer and and…?…
