Abstract
K-12, or Model Kinder-6-4-2 is a program developed by the Department of Education. The educational system in the Philippines will now have thirteen years of basic education. The research is bound to finding out the differences and similarities of Philippine K-12 from other countries. The researchers also conducted an interview with Mrs. Luz Mandaue and she said that the educational system in other countries is better than the Philippine K-12. K-12 was compared with the U.S. educational system and the Chinese educational system because their government gives importance to their education. Our research will show that reforms are usually for the better especially when they see that we are always left behind. The researchers’ study is about K-12 and some other educational system of countries like U.S., China, Japan and Singapore. The researchers would like to know why Filipinos prefers to study in foreign countries rather than in their own countries. And this study would also like to show what benefits will the incoming generation of students gain with this system, and to show how other countries adjust during an educational reform. The researchers would like to inform Filipinos in what might happen in their system of living once K-12 is the on-going educational system of the country.

    K-12 aims to give quality basic education to make the students readily employable but there are problems with the textbooks produced for this program. Before implementing this program, there are already DepEd books that have errors. There are words like “Unexcitement”, “lakslustre”, and “DNA alternation” which was supposed to be “DNA alteration”. DepEd said that the claimed error books were the old ones. However, there are some reports which says that the books are still in use. There are also reports that these books were used for the training of teachers. According to DepEd Assistant Secretary Jesus Matedo, the old errored books were used by the English teachers for their training. If the government wants to improve the quality of education, it should produce books immediately that are free from errors. According to Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., the country should focus upgrading the materials and the training for teachers. These processes will improve the quality of education, not adding two more years in high school. The government argues that adding two more years will improve the quality of education but the adding of two more years has nothing to do with quality but quantity. Another thing that the government should focus is to strengthen or improve the education system in the country. Instead of focusing on standardized tests, the schools should focus more on application. Although testing is a good because it is a way of knowing how much you have remembered from the discussions, application is better because it is a good way of knowing how much you have learned. Learning the subject and applying it will make the students remember it on a long-term. Thus, the government should focus on improving the quality and not adding the quantity of…

    The present educational system of the Philippines is the result of a long process of educational evolution. A. Pre-Spanish Period During the pre-Spanish period, education was informal. It means that there was no overruling agency that governs the educational system.  The child is taught at home by the parents or by some tribal tutor. The practice of apprenticeship, whereby a person usually learns some occupational skill from his parents or sent to somebody as an apprentice who knows a certain job [say, a blacksmith] Institutionalized education in the form of initiation rites and religious ceremonies. The priest called sonats provided a specialized training for would-be priest. We can safely assume that subjects of instruction that is being taught inside the house deals with tribal rules/codes, instructions of faith [paganism, animism], basic counting system [I believe that there should be since early Filipinos [or should we say Indio] were already exchanging trades with neighboring Asian countries], and basic literacy [the Alibata, our local alphabet system and local language]. B. Spanish period During the Spanish period, education became organized. A major educational reform was affected that gives a complete educational system for Filipinos. The Early Part of the Spanish Regime  Schools were set up for the upper social classes founded by Spaniards for the Spanish youth. Filipino boys and girls attended parochial schools. The curriculum was predominantly religious. The children learned Christian doctrine, sacred songs and music, and prayers required for the sacraments of confession and communion. The 3 R’s were given to brighter students.     The education system was progressed in the year 2010 when President Benigno Aquino III suggested the implementation of the K-12 education in the Philippines. An education where in everywhere in the world is being implemented except for three countries including the Philippines.
