Valladolid is a beautiful old town which is Castilla’s largest city, with a population of more than 300,000 people. It dates back over 900 years, when Count Andurez founded it. This city is full of history: the Catholic King and Queen got married here and it was the capital of the country until the 16th century. Intro: where it is, population, a little about history.
If you want to spend some time getting around the city, I’d definitely recommend walking around theold town, rather than taking a taxi or a bus. You can cross the whole town in half an hour. How to move round.
If you are into sightseeing, the main landmarks are the Cathedral, St Paul Church and the small but stunning La Antigua Church, all of them located in the city centre. Close to St Paul you will find the National Museum of Sculpture, which contains some of the most breathtaking pieces of are related to the Holy Week. You can’t miss it! Sightseeing
The city centre is very safe whenever you go out. You really must go to some small bars where you can enjoy typical Spanish tapas as you’ve never tasted before! Examples of these are bars such as La Tasquita or Los Zagales, which are a must for locals and tourists. Eating out
On the other hand there are, of course, some deprived areas. It’s not worth visiting Pajarillos and I’d steer clear of Giron or Las Flores, it can be dangerous, especially after dark. Not worth visting
