A Person You Admire Most
A person I admire most

Without our realization, we all have a tendency to judge somebody just by their appearance. I once shared my point of view with them until I “met” Susan Boyle in 2009. Ever since, I have been a huge fan of hers. Her story began from the first moment she stepped onto the stage of the famous show “Britain’s got talent”. She proclaimed her dream of being a professional singer. The judges rolled their eyes and the audience pulled incredulous faces: she was too ugly to become a singer. Nobody would believe a fat middle-aged woman like her can do anything other than singing in the bathroom. To be honest, I agreed with them. She was already 47 years old when she entered the competition. Susan Boyle is not anywhere near “average looking” – not to say ugly! She is short and overweight with double chin and unkempt hair. She gave me an impression of a woman who was always ignored and taken no notice of. But then she astonished everybody there by her angelic voice. She sang “I dreamed a dream” and really touched my heart. She might be unemployed and unglamorous, but all that faded away when she sang. Her voice does have a miraculous power: once she starts singing, the whole world brightens up and turns into a better place. Susan Boyle’s story is just like a fairy tale of the “ugly duckling” who doesn’t need to turn into a “swan”. She has had a dream all her life, and at 47 – her dreams came true. That must be the most precious lesson that she gave me: never give up and just keep moving on no matter what happens – it’s never too late to fulfil your dreams. Susan Boyld will always be the person I admire most - not only for her singing, but also for the inspiration she gave me. Thanks to her, I will always strive to achieve my dreams!

Hayley Lewis also hated getting out of bed because she knew she had to put on her “togs”. She said that she was racing with girls 20kg lighter and you can’t hide anything when you’re in swimmers. She also said that she used to focus on her weight every time she jumped up on to the starting block instead of focusing on her race. By being judged because of her physical appearance made her quit her swimming career because she felt that she didn’t fit in anywhere. This affected both her mental and spiritual health.…
