A Moment in Time (Personal Narrative)
On August 18, 2001 my family and I left for a vacation in the Bahamas at the Atlantis Resort. We crammed all of our suitcases inside the car, which of course we had one too many. Before leaving on every vacation, my family has this tradition where we all put our hands on top of each others and yell "We're going to the Atlantis!", or whatever destination we are heading to. Once everyone was ready and situated we headed for the airport.

The flight was long, and it seemed as if we were never going to make it to the Bahamas. After several grueling hours we finally made it to our destination, Paradise Island. The vacation began as usual. Everyone got settled into their rooms, unpacked, got cleaned up, and then everyone went out to dinner.

My family and I spent the first two days of our vacation just relaxing and having a good time. After a while, I was ready to break away from the family and try to meet some people my own age. Later that evening my family and I went to a beach party the Atlantis was holding for guests. Little did I know how this night would change my life.

My mother and I were goofing around having a great time dancing together, when I spotted a boy. All of a sudden I became very nervous, and I told my mom I just wanted to go sit back down at our table. We made our way back, when all of a sudden I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around, and to my surprise it was the guy that caught my attention just a moment before.

"Hi there, my name's Jordan." he said to me

"Umm, Hi, I'm Ashley." I replied back

The first thing I noticed about him was his accent. The second he spoke a word I knew he was from Boston. The next several days of our trip was the best time I have ever had in my life. We spent every moment together for the duration of our minuscule week we had left. It felt like each day was better than the one before. I remember our last night together so vividly.

Jordan and I decided to spend our last night together on the beach, where we first

Throughout the past year I have endured several life changing occurances. One of my family members troubled through the treturous stages of cancer and unfortunately has passed at this time. If I have taken anything away from this, it is that family is the most important resource in a persons life. Without those people who tell you that you can, regardless of the circumstances, becoming succesful could be very challenging. After clearing my head, I was able to start thinking of a career choice that would make me enjoy going to work. I encountered an opening at a local CVS/Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and applied. After being hired, I immediately fell in love with the surroundings, the people, the patient interaction, and the knowledge…

For this project you will write a narrative essay about a significant moment of your life using the literary strategies of plot, character, and setting. This should be a moment when you learned something important about yourself or someone else, or about life. You will develop your story through the use of contraries, creating tension that moves the story forward and gives it significance. You can discuss the importance of your story explicitly, perhaps as a revelation, or you can imply it. Either way, it should be clear that you have contemplated the significance of the event and have pushed your thinking past the obvious, surface-level impact. The focus of your narrative should be “The Moment,” with only enough background to convey its understanding to the reader.…

Once we arrived in Kelowna, we were able to stay with Lyndees girlfriend. Since it was a Monday, not much was open, so we ended up walking over to a place just down the street from where we were staying. I remember feeling guilty for missing work, but I told myself to make the most of it, and just have fun. As i was getting a drink - a guy accidently bumped into me, and spilled his drink. He apologized a few times, and said that his friends and him would like to buy us a drink as an apology. I told him that it wasn't necessary and that his apology was more than enough. As I was about to walk away - a tall, blond hair, blue eyed guy walked up, and introduced himself as Brad. He was wearing a bright blue shirt, dark jeans and white shoes. I will never forget the feeling I got, when I seen him for the first time. I tried not to make it obvious, and I've never admitted this before, but I was mesmerized.…

We enjoyed the atlantic ocean, the warm white sand, and the scorching hot sun. We could hear the huge waves crashing into the sandy shore. We could also hear the lively chatter of the people on the beach. The smell of the salty ocean and the banana boat sunscreen overtook the air with mass quantities of the two smells combined. The touch of the hot sand on your feet and the rough seashells on shore. The best part of the day was when me and my brother went kayaking for an hour out into the deep blue sea. It took fifteen long minutes to fight our way over the…

The first beach we went to was so cool, it was the coolest beach I have ever seen. There was a lot of surfers there, they were all super good at surfing. We stayed and watched them surf for a while but what we weren’t noticing was the waves. My brother and I were on the sand and since we were looking at the surfers this huge wave comes and gets us entirely wet, which technically we got wet without haven’t even gotten in the water. We went to another beach after that and I was called Baby Beach. We got there and I practically noticed why it was called Baby Beach, there was literally little kids everywhere and the water was not even deep. We still got in but it wasn’t so fun, well obviously the water went deeper but there was a rope that was to say that “the water drops when you pass this.” We had a barbecue later on that night, with the entire family and it was yummy. There is nothing better than home cooked family meals. We were all tired so we went back the hotel and it was time to lay our heads on the pillows. The next day we practically spent the entire day sightseeing again and later that night it was time to head off back to Arizona. It sucked that we had to leave but it had to happen that way. The trip back seemed like it took longer than coming to…

The first time in my life that I ever experienced true anger and fear was in the sixth grade. A little before Thanksgiving Break, I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in my lower back. I had a mole there that was removed earlier that year, and the test results on it had come back positive. I did not find out until later, but when my mom sat me down across from her to talk, I knew something was wrong. It was then that she told me what was going on, and I broke down in tears. I had never experienced fear such as I did then.…

It was almost 5am on July 17, 1996, when I was rushed to the hospital. I was balled up in the back seat of my mother in laws car, biting down on a towel because the pain was so unbearable. I heard him say “it’s ok baby… ” just as another jolt of pain came. As his voice faded I could feel him rubbing my back, and I tried my best to listen to his voice and forget the pain. It was impossible though, the baby was coming and there was no turning back now.…
