Reflecions a Look Back on The Last 4 Weeks of Class

This is a look back on the last 4 weeks of class and what all I have and or improved upon the knowledge I already possessed in certain skills learned from my experience in writing, and working throughout my life so far.

In The Beginning Week 1:
"Alexander Graham Bell failed many times while attempting to transmit his

voice over a wire until he finally succeeded. A quote attributed to Bell:

‘When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so

regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the ones which open for

us’"

Reference: Thomas, 2011, p.I3.

In your discussion post, ponder the following questions: How many doors

have closed on you? How many times did you focus on that closed door

instead of looking for the opportunities that opened up? Please share an

example of a closed door and how you learned to overcome it. What

opportunities do you see opening up for yourself now that you are in school?

How do your personal strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, culture,

and other aspects that make you unique play into how you responded to

specific opportunities? How would you want to change or feel you need to

change in order to better capitalize on opportunities you have?

Reference: Thomas, C. (2011, October 16). America's innovation deficit.
Idaho Statesman, p. I3.
Look familiar? It should, it is what we all learned from day one to always

look for a way to keep on trying no matter what obstactables we encounter

upon this road of life we all travel upon. In week 1 we learned to introduce

ourselves better in personal and business situations, and also introduced

ourselves to this course and one another after all we’re all be together for

the next 3 years might as well get to know

Miroslav Holub's poem ‘The Door' focuses on embracing new perspectives and embracing change. The metaphor of opening the door suggests we open ourselves up. If we go outside (that is to say, beyond the familiar, the here and the now), we may see some magical things such as a ‘garden' or a ‘magic city'. It is also possible that we may see something confronting such as a fog – but that fog will clear. In other word, we will understand and be rewarded in due time. Although there may be something confronting outside such as ‘darkness ticking' or even more frightening, ‘nothing', we should still open the door, for ‘at least there will be a draught.' Which is to say, although change is confronting, it will always be rewarded in some way. The origin of the change is embracing change itself. The change was caused by someone stepping outside their comfort zone and looking ‘outside the door.' Miroslav Holub's short text is an argument for new perspectives, his message is don't fear…

The motif of the door is used consistently throughout the whole poem, symbolising an invisible wall between one stage and the consecutive stage of life that acts as an obstacle between the two. This motif is then recurrently used in the repetition of the phrase “Go and open the door” indicating the initiative an individual must show towards a change contradicting the quotation “we change, whether we like it or not”. This explores the concept of change being inevitable, in comparison to the emphatic tone in The Door, implying the availability of choice when confronting change. Despite the contradicting notions, it can be seen through these factors that there is an evident change in the lives of individuals as part of the human nature. This same idea is similarly associated in the poem I am Man-made by Susan…

In Miroslav Holub’s poetry “The Door” portrays the change as a process. The poem begins with the command “Go and open the door” which actively encourages the responders to explore change. “The door” symbolises the barriers which enclose and restrict people’s perspective to those of present. It also symbolises an entry into a new world of possibilities to gain a new perspective. The use of “Maybe” in italics and its repetition conveys that change has no certainties, but its results are dependent on the person’s perspective and interpretations “Maybe outside there’s a tree, a wood”. However, the use of an optimistic tone persuades the reader that “If there’s a fog, it will clear.” The use of figurative language describes the worst possibilities of change “even if there’s only the darkness tickling, even there is only the howling wind” then builds to a climax with a reductive sentence structure “even if Nothing Is there”…
