A good teacher is a work of art. A teacher is one that imparts knowledge to students within a field of study. Beyond that, teachers perform many other roles in the classroom. As a student, I had many teachers who were competent and provided the necessary information needed. Nevertheless, only a few stood out. My high school English Language teacher possessed all the ideal qualities of a teacher. Writing was always a challenge for me but having a supportive teacher made learning less difficult. Some roles he performed are that of being a facilitator and a mentor. With this, he contributed greatly to the development of my literacy.…

Teachers provide foundation of each individual’s education. In addition to teachers in school, other people act as teachers also, for example, someone teaching another how to draw, write, read, or even how to ride a bike. The act of teaching is a simple process that just happens from trying to explain one’s knowledge to another. A teacher needs patience, knowledge, a certain discipline, bits of sociology, and a certain personality to captivate the students.…

My best teacher that I have had thus far in my academic teacher would have to be Elias Semaan. Professor Semaan taught the upper level Finance courses here at JMU and his intelligence as well as his passion captured my attention and made me want to absorb the knowledge that he was preaching. I had Professor Semaan my sophomore and junior year and he was great. He taught a difficult course, FIN 360 Analytical Methods in Finance but he made difficult concepts and equations seem easy by going through the logic behind them and why and how we use them. He added in humor to lighten the heavy load of the courses content and keep the class happy. He was also very creative and used his own little real world examples while explaining bigger critical concepts. Professor Semaan did an excellent job of keeping the class active and participating. He was open to the student’s opinion and always asked at the beginning of class if anyone was having trouble with anything in the course or had any questions, if they did we would discuss it as a class until everyone was caught up.…

A teacher has his or her own style or way of motivating their students. Motivation plays an important part in a student’s success of learning and development. There are times when teachers spend more time with their students than most parents do, thus, a teacher is fundamental in shaping their students success. If parents or teachers are poor leaders our children are the ones who are at a disadvantage. When they shine as leaders our children blossom and the world is wide open to them. As a future teacher it is of utmost importance that I make sure to find the best style of teaching for the students I will be teaching in order for them to receive the best education possible. The essential characteristics of a teacher can be categorized into a few main teaching styles or leadership styles. Directing, participating, delegating, and combined styles are the main forms of teaching and leading. The qualities associated with these styles are imperative to any teacher. The purpose as teachers is basically the same as any good leader, to provide purpose, direction and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission which in this case is to educate. Through my fieldwork and experience in working with children, I have learned that what a leader or a teacher brings to the students or audience is imperative to their development and learning. A teacher's personal characteristics are also crucial factors in students' development and motivation.…
