A Good Man Is Hard to Find: Analisys 4
A Good Man Is Hard To Find "Adversity defines the essence of who we are and who we desire to be!" This can be best realized in the rural southern regions of the United States during the late 19 forties and early fifties. Without a specific location of long-term concentration, this story finds three generations of a family taking a vacation (planning at least) to Florida despite objections from the grandmother. Factor in her impatient son (Bailey), his wife, and two smart-ass children have marginal respect for their grandmother resulting in a crew of authoritative, uncertainty, distant, and manipulative people about to engage on a trip that ends with certain doom for all with a twist indicative of self preservation and ironic irritation. Vacation time usually brings about excitement and enthusiasm. In this particular setting, a not so typical family, grandmother, and a stowaway feline eventually make Florida their destination choice. The decision goes against the wishes of the grandmother who points out the fact that there is a fugitive loose and headed for a destination this family has seen before. As the trip ensues, they come across various sights indicative of the era of segregation and hard time.
Pant less Negro children, plantation graveyards, and views of clouds during roadside lunch are just a few of the sights observed by this family on their doomed endeavor. What trip would be standard without sibling conflict between John and June? Grandmother 's memories of days gone by reflect on a man who used to bring her watermelon along with a sighing confirmation that she should have married him. Regret is never far away from her mind as daily events continue to consume her emotionally.
The continued trip brings them to a roadside stop known as the tower. A full figured man known as Red Sammy who works as a truck mechanic greets them. His tall wife prepares lunch and socializes with the wayward crew. Casual conversation initiated from Red 's wife to June

You are sitting in your living room at home watching the nightly news. The lead story for the night is about a family of four that were murdered. After seeing and hearing about something like that we often ask ourselves, What could possess a person enough to kill another human being? What is it that drives a person to kill? Will we ever know? Many authors use this unique mentality in short stories. They write about what the killer thinks and how he/she acts on his/her thoughts. One of these stories is "A Good Man Is Hard To Find", by Flannery O'Connor. In this story O'Connor's victim, The Misfit, is an escaped convict. He was in the Federal Penitentiary for killing his father. Throughout the story O'Connor builds up this killers mentality through his words and body language. Like many other murderers, The Misfit could not distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality.…

“Cloud Cover Caribbean” tells us the story: a Haitian, Antenor, fled his country on a small boat. During this unpredictably dangerous sea adventure, he rescued a Dominican, Diogenes, and a Cuban, Carmelo, who both shared the same dream with Antenor of going to Miami to start a new life. Some conflicts, subtle or obvious, took place while these three men of different countries and cultural backgrounds were struggling together in one little skiff. The moment before they were almost about to sink in the notorious Bermuda Triangle, an American boat happened to pass by, so thank goodness, the three men survived. In no time the captain of the American boat sent them directly to a Puerto Rican to start working.…

Flannery O’Connor’s story, A Good Man is Hard to Find, brings a story in which she connects her experience as a victim of lupus erythematosus with her writings. The story begins with an ordinary family that embarks on a journey that becomes the last of their lives as the journey approaches to an end, as well as their imminent death, yet something astounding happens with the main character. The main character, the Grandmother, changes her heart by the cruel ways of the “Misfit”, who is a criminal that escaped from the penitentiary. One might think that Grandmothers are sweet and loving, and often innocent due to their advanced age and condition. We, as society, think of them as great examples of people that radiate love, mentors, and defenders of morality and good manners. However, this is not the case in A Good Man Is Hard to Find, by Flannery O’Connor. As the story unfolds, her personality reflects that hidden evil we all carry inside and how detouring on a route takes a whole family to face disastrous consequences, yet one person finds redemption from that evil. A Good Man Is Hard to Find is a story that symbolizes redemption, because there is a sinner, there is a journey, and there is redemption.…

During the period of Modernism, authors and artists valued religion, morals, and also gothic. Over the course of one life-¬changing summer, Ella Mackenzie, a plucky and preternaturally mature fifth-going-on-sixth grader, is sent to what she calls Broken Family Camp. Ella’s family is broken all right, in all the ways we might expect a plucky and preternaturally mature narrator’s family to be broken, and then some. Sick/absent/dead parent? Check, double check. Her mother has leukemia — Extreme Cancer, Ella calls it — and is about to have a stem cell transplant. Her father, who works as a guide at an outdoor travel adventure company, has literally gone fishing, as he has for most of Ella’s childhood. (Her cellphone’s ring tone for him is “Nowhere Man.”) An only child, she has no memories of her parents together. “When people divorce, the situation is bad but not a complete disaster,” she explains. “The kids eventually get stepparents and maybe half siblings, back-and-forth schedules between houses and divided-up vacations. We had a lot of that in Santa Rosa. But when we Mackenzies do things, we do them all the way. It’s Extreme Divorce, like some kind of reality-TV show.”And as a result of this extremity, Ella is forced to spend the summer with the paternal grandmother she has never met, an intimidating widow with “the air of a queen,” who inspires comparisons ranging from Darth Vader to Cruella de Vil, someone “you’ve heard stories about but don’t believe actually exists,” who lives in a deeply eccentric adobe in Albuquerque that Ella calls the House of Mud.…

Our summer trips always began in the same way. My siblings and I moped around the house whining about the injustice of being subjected to such a boring fate. In the hope of soliciting our interest, my father pulled out maps and brochures depicting an endless array of possible tourist attractions. My mother, choosing a different line of attack, spent a small fortune buying a myriad of snacks, games, and books, which were intended to entertain us for six days. Regardless of their efforts, we spent most of our time endlessly fighting and bickering among ourselves. Usually, by the third day of our journey, even my mother was obliged to join us in this noisy pursuit. Today, my sister, brothers, and I laughingly agree one of our fondest trip memories is of our mother, leaning across the back of the front seat, flailing her arms wildly in an effort to smack us, while we cowered in the back of the station wagon. In recent years, my family has spent countless hours happily reminiscing about the once dreaded summer crossings. Amazingly, sometime during the passing decades, like a flower…

This book takes place in the early 1900’s. We deduce this from many seemingly insignificant details in the story like the methods of transportation, the schooling system, and the value of money, which occur quite differently than today. The family resides in San Francisco, California, and throughout the book they live in various houses. They move from one house to another as their financial circumstances change. Although the weather in San Francisco I known to be quite gloomy, Mama keeps a cheerful house.…
