A good Fall
Life is full of challenges without freedom In the book A Good Fall by Ha Jin, he is a contemporary Chinese - America poet and novelist. His poetry is associated with the Misty Poetry movement. Throughout his book, all the characters have to struggle to seek for the freedom of life and get out of imprisonment. But it seems like no one is having freedom. According to Mr. Mchon’s blog, There are different type of imprisonment includes psychology, emotional, spiritual, obligation, financial and physical, etc. Similarly in the stories “The Beauty” and “Temporary Love,” each character has to defeat to achieve freedom but at the end, they cannot win over their selfishness and self-control and weakness. In the “Beauty,” there is a man who names Dan Feng. He is the owner of a real estate company and has a beautiful wife. They are both perfect to each other and are proud about that. But his daughter is not as perfect as they are. Dan Feng starts to raise suspicions that the baby is not his daughter. In addition, his wife has been friend with Fooming Yu, an ugly guy who is from the same country with her. Eventually, Gina tells her husband the truth that she has done plastic surgery to improve her beauty. Dan Fend is mad when he knows that his wife is an ugly woman. He said, “You can’t go on deceiving others. In fact, you’ve deceived yourself” (45). Contrarily, Gina defends for herself that, “I love my beauty. It’s the best thing America gave me and finally I have a face that matches my figure and skin” (45). According to Mr.Mchon’s blog, vindication: proving to others and yourself that you are right. The problem with wanting to be right all the time is that you forget more important things like reaching an understanding with others.
