In the play A Doll House written by Henrick Isben several social issues were revealed. Considering the time period, women had little to no rights at all. They were basically expected to have no voice, and to just keep a happy home. The lamp in Katherine Mansfield's "The Doll's House" and the monkey in Liliana Heker's "The Stolen Party" illuminate the common theme by showing children in the middle of learning a harsh reality about the world they live in. The young main characters, Kezia Burnell in "The Doll's House", and Rosaura in "The Stolen Party", live in a society where classism is common. They are both naïve though, to the fact that classism exists and that people are seriously affected by it. The lamp and the monkey are symbols that symbolize how the young main characters of each story deal with the classism around them, and in Rosaura's case, how she is treated because of the classism.…

In the story “A Doll’s House” written by Henrik Ibsen, the author uses many different references including dolls, puppets, and play things to show his ideas about gender and societal roles in the 19th century. Ibsen’s ideas on these gender and societal role demonstrate that he believes that women are inferior to men during this time frame. This story illustrates that men are completely superior to women in this point in history. Women do not nearly have the same responsibilities or duties as men. The gender roles that are presented to men and women are based off of what society believes their roles are. Ibsen is able to show through his characters in the story the gender roles and the societal roles that both women and men play.…

Have you ever been in a relationship where only you think everything is going right when your friends tell you that it is not? The more you go further into the relationship the deeper you fall and the harder it gets to break free? A Doll’s House explicitly portrays a role and status of women in the 1900s. Ibsen uses clear characters and morals to support his ideas. Throughout the whole novel Ibsen uses a female character Nora, to perfectly contrast the social status of female to male. However I personally did not get some of the ideas that Ibsen showed but, I have seen a relationship between my cousin and her boyfriend. He was controlling, and very manipulative towards Nora. Of course deep into a relationship one does not realize he or she is being used until one day a series of event occurs which traumatizes one.…
