A Day to Remember: This Day Like It Happened Yesterday
I remember this day like it happened yesterday. I was a sophomore in high school and Thanksgiving had just past. I had fallen asleep watching a movie in the living room we had in the basement. It was about eight o’clock and I was woken up by a loud thump. Thinking someone had dropped something, I went back to sleep. It was when I heard my dad running above when I knew something was wrong. I ran up the stairs and watched as he ran into my Grandpa’s room which was right off the living room. He then yelled for me to go get my mom. I ran upstairs as fast as I could, told my mom something was wrong with Grandpa, and ran back down with her right behind me. Seconds later I heard my mom calling 911.
My Grandpa had had a stroke and that’s when it all started. It was a long road from there. Two weeks passed and my Grandpa was moved from the hospital to a rehabilitation nursing center. He had to relearn how to walk and talk. Every day was a challenge for him. It was hard for him to have conversations because he couldn’t remember words. The rehabilitation center was about fifteen minutes from my house so I tried my best to go see him a couple times a week. It was hard to see him like this. My Grandpa was always a very strong, independent man. After about six weeks of being in the rehabilitation center, he was able to come home. It was January and I had just turned sixteen. It was the best birthday gift ever. In order for him to get his speech back, we had a speech therapist come to the house every other day. On the days the speech therapist wasn’t there, we would have a physical therapist come and work with him to get the strength in his left arm and leg back. He worked so hard every day but I could tell how tired and worn out it made him. I just kept hoping for him to recover fast so he wouldn’t be in any more pain. By the time three months had past, it was April and he was done with all his therapy. Everything was looking up until August rolled around. Towards the middle

In the 2nd grade, I was living with my grandparents for the year as my current house was being built. Never had I been home alone either. But then, one day, I was instructed not to take the bus home from school, as my father had told me to stay at school. As my day went on, I had forgotten this detail. Therefore, when I got home there was nobody at the house. Crying, I started looking through the windows to see if maybe someone was inside, as I had no way inside. But then, when all hope had vanished. A cop drove very slowly past. My eyes widened and my heart started racing, as I frantically waved down the cop and explained my situation through tears. The cop was very kind and sympathetic. She gave me a hug as I cooled down. She took me to the police station as we waited for my parents. Her fellow co-workers gave me a tour around the police station. By that time, I had almost forgotten that I didn't even have my parents with me, when my grandma showed up to retrieve me. Running as fast as my little legs could carry me, I ran into her arms, and I never…

No one had any clue how I got injured. Without thinking about how it happened my mom started cleaning the blood running down my forehead and said "we need to get him the the hospital right now". It happened on a day like any other, but little did I know while I was sound asleep, that I might never have the chance to see my father ever again. It was around midnight when my father was on his way home on his motorcycle. He was only two blocks away from home when all of a sudden a car illegally ran a stop sign, took a sharp left turn, and caused the monstrous vehicle to collide with my father head on. His body flung over the hood, and he flew onto the side of the road. With no helmet on,…

My grandparents were healthy and doing amazing. My grandad went to the doctor and he came back with some news. He told us he was diagnosed with colon cancer. The year was 2008, I was five years old when my grandfather died. We all was at his house for some occasion I cannot remember. Pop had just went to the restroom and he was coming back down the hall. He almost got to the living room when he looked at me and smiled. Not even moments later, he fell face down onto the carpet. The last thing did was smile at me, because I was messing with the .22 pistol my uncle, Brian gave me. The doctor said Herschel died of a heart attack. Which made sense because he did have heart problems which I think I inherited.…

Life went on for the next few days as they always would. My grandpa was in the hospital though. I was praying for him every night. My prayers I guess were not answered. My sister and I share a room and I remember my dad coming in after answering the phone and waking us up at about 4 in the morning. He told us that we needed to get packed for Minnesota and that our grandpa has just died in the hospital. He said that we needed to leave because he didn’t know when the funeral would be. I didn’t even cry because I was so shocked. My sister and I put on a t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. We packed and made sure we had everything. We left for our 8 hour journey at about 6 and I must have slept until 10. We stopped for lunch at about…
