Analyze a Contemporary Health Care Issue

Access to health care is a major forerunner in today’s health care talk. As health care costs rises there has been a wide number of policies to try and eliminate the rise in cost and increase access to health care services. Yet there are still many Americans that do not have access to health care services. There are three major reasons why American’s lack access to health care services; people lack the education and understanding of the nation’s health care system and it components, many people are plagued with pre-existing medical conditions that brand them “high-risk” and insurance companies will not insure them, because they fear they will lose out on profit, and lastly many people cannot afford health care coverage. With these components in place their access to adequate health care has become very distant. Individuals who fall into any of these categories are at risk for not obtaining necessary medical treatment, services, and procedures, which could ultimately save their lives, and prevent health care threats.
The health care world has a broad number of not-for-profit health care organizations. Not-for-profit health care organizations are “organizations that give a special designation because they provide goods or services that result in needed community benefits and are exempt from paying most taxes (Cleverley O James, 2011).” Not-for-profit health care organization is exempt from almost all taxes, because they are expected to provide free or low-cost care for those in need (Lydersen, 2012). This means that not-for-profit health care organizations will provide goods and services to communities in spite of a patients ability to pay, this is because not-for-profit health care organizations money stays within the communities being serviced, nothing leaves it.
