Zooey Deschanel's Story Of The 'Almost Famous'
Zooey Deschanel just got real on motherhood, particularly the high expectations to lose weight right after giving birth. The “New Girl” star said that it’s just plain odd that mothers feel pressured to bring back their pre-baby bods right away.

In a recent interview with Redbook, Zooey Deschanel finds it absurd that most women feel pressured to go back to their pre-baby bods. “To expect someone to look like her pre-baby self immediately is odd,” People quoted the “500 Days of Summer” actress. “Because you just grew a human and then birthed that human — there’s a lot that needs to go back to where it was. If one glances at a magazine or turns on the TV, you got a good idea of what media’s definition of an attractive woman looks like: she’s tall, has long, flowing hair, is surgically and digitally enhanced, blemish-free, and very thin. In a world where a constant flow of media images far exceeds the number of people we could ever see face to face, this abnormally thin and digitally enhanced ideal has become the norm. After reading "Barbie Doll," I cannot help but agree with the argument in which the author is trying to make. To be a woman in today's day and age means always being told how you should dress and act based on society's standards. There is so much controversy concerning how women should appear, and this is due in part to the media's depiction of how a woman should look. The ideal woman used to have curves, but now women are expected to have a super tiny waist but still have larger breast and a large but; these are standards with which woman have had a nearly impossible time to meet. Between new diet and workout plans, it is easy for a woman to get mixed up with an unhealthy lifestyle of starving herself and exercising too much which leads to…

Especially prevalent for the past few decades, the pressure for young women to meet a certain physical standard has been growing ever since. In today’s society we have a distorted view of beauty. We see thin as good and women have actually convinced themselves that the skinnier the better. In our world today, a Barbie is a figure of beauty and perfection. Women are willing to go through surgery in order to look like Barbie. There is something completely wrong with that, and leads my thoughts to “How did it get to this?”.…

I remember grew up playing with my Barbie doll and it being made physically out of proportion. It distorted my self image on how my body should be. I agree with Barry 's claim, " [most] women grow up thinking they need to look like Barbie, which for most women is impossible, although there is multimillion-dollar beauty industry devoted to convincing women that they must try" (369). The emphasis on beautiful skin by the media pushes women to spend lots of time and money on beauty products and improvement. As Barry says "Cindy Crawford, who is some kind of genetic mutation" (369). I see where Cindy Crawford would be some kind of genetic mutation because she is a model and has that perfect image. Models are underweight and wear allot of makeup to make them selves look pretty. We stand in grocery line and all we see are magazine full of beautiful women and of course we buy the magazines to see what we could do to make ourselves look like them. My experience is that I myself have tried very hard to look good, I spend excruciating pain waxing my face and I spend top dollar on my makeup at Merle Norman Cosmetic Company just so that I could try to meet the standards of being beautiful.…
