Zika Virus
The Zika Virus is a mosquito-borne illness that is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. It is found in parts of Africa and Malaysia and spreading to islands off the Pacific Coast. The Zika Virus is rapidly spreading. It can be deadly but is not likely for most people who get the virus. Eighty percent of people with the disease have no symptoms.
The body system that is most affected by the Zika Virus is the integumentary system. The integumentary system or skin system contains glands, tissue, nerve, and fiber. The main functions are that it protects the body from damage, its cushions deep tissues, it makes your body waterproof, and it excretes waste. It is an illness caused by the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito bite. It is made up of four layers: the E Dimer is the outermost layer. Then the M Protein layer. Next the Capsid Protein layer. Finally the Genomic RNA layer. In recent years, the Zika Virus has spread from Africa to Asia to other islands within the Pacific Ocean. Since the Zika Virus has spread from Africa and Asia it is known to be an emerging pathogen (Gale).
If you or someone you know had the Zika Virus there would probably be no symptoms. When the mosquito bites the skin it sends toxins into the body causing the symptoms. Although, if someone did have symptoms they would conclude of: fever, rash, joint pains, or muscle pains. The Zika Virus can also be the cause of a birth defect called microcephaly (Gale). Microcephaly causes a smaller head and brain size that is much smaller than normal for infants of that age and gender. It is good at reproducing and spreading throughout the
