Zephyr's Masks
Writer Jody Houser and artist Francis Portela did an amazing job with the art and story line in the comic book Faith. According to Etelka Lehoczky “Faith’s costume is so graceless, it almost seems like the work of an artist who’s channeling unspoken fatophobia.” (Lehoczky) I agree with lehoczky point about the costume Francis Portela created in the comic that didn’t show any exotic look to her costume. But rather shows the shape or bulges of her figure. As many comic book fans might be disappointed due to the fact that they used a character that is over weight and has a full suit as her costume. I feel that he did a great job portraying this character and describing her unique hero figure. Through out comic book history female characters have always been created to show some type of …show more content…
She feels like she doesn’t deserves a break and needs to stay focusing on being hero. Fantasy and reality is something everyone has experienced once or twice, for example, my fantasy is that one day I will wake up and my wheelchair won’t be there and I just stand up like it was something I have always done before. My reality is that the wheelchair is always going to be there, and Zephyr reality is that she will always be a superhero whether she likes it or not. In some of the daydream scenes (in the book or the film?) Zephyr starts to look more fashionable, is this because artist Marguerite Savage took over those scenes? In some eyes this could be sexism, but I feel it’s something women do, they dream about being more fashionable. Savage did a great job with the art in those scenes. Faith was a book that in some way may cause a problem because some comic fans might have a fatophobia, but what about the fans that are tired of seeing female character in tight outfits, low skirts and some type of exotic look to

The character I chose to render a costume design for is Troy Maxson from the play Fences by August Wilson. Troy is the family’s main source of income and his character is a very strong willed and stubborn 53-year-old man. Troy relentlessly told his son, Cory, multiple times that his football recruitment was a waste of time and that he should get “…recruited in how to fix cars or something where he can make a living” (8; ch.1, sec.1). Therefore, from Troy’s actions, I knew that his costume should entail a sense of seriousness such as nothing brightly colored or crazy patterned clothing. Another area in the script that influences my costume choices was the setting of the play. The play was set on a dirty entrance of an old brick building house…

Masks are prevalent throughout Lord of the Flies. The hunters utilize face paint, the most recognizable and physical form of the mask in the story. The paint is first mentioned when Jack smears red and white clay onto his face, along with charcoal. Although the clay masks are originally used as camouflage in order to hunt a pig, the paint soon becomes a way for the hunters to distance themselves from the atrocities they commit. Jack immediately changes after applying the face paint. “He began to dance and his laughter became a bloodthirsty snarling […] the mask was a thing on its own, behind which Jack hid, liberated from shame and self-consciousness” (Golding 64). Not only does Jack gain the confidence to hunt the pig, the mask also convinces the rest of the hunters to follow Jack’s leadership.…

In the book, the way Zeitoun’s relationship with Kathy and his family seemed like such a loving and compassionate relationship. It almost seems false that a relationship that loving could end up in a murder plot. In the book when Hurricane Katrina was hitting New Orleans there were many strong undertones on how much Zeitoun missed his family and it almost seemed like Zeitoun wasn’t as concerned with the storm as much as he wanted to be in contact with his family. Kathy seemed just as concerned and she ended up becoming hysterical at times when she couldn’t figure out where he was. At one point in the book Kathy was willing to drive from Arizona back to New Orleans just to have hope that she could see her husband again. It seemed like a genuine relationship before all the chaos which leads me to think that Zeitoun might be suffering from something PTSD related.…

Mark Andrew Schneider mainly works with rubber, cold cast metal resins, vacuformed plastic and occasionally leather and fiberglass in order to create his masks and props, which he makes by hand. His area is Ceramics, which he uses in order to create masks among others, and he is also a concept artist. As seen from the coloured images in the portfolio (that can mostly be scrolled through sideways, similarly to the Rhiannon Ewing-James’ portfolio) the masks that the artist makes are mainly covered in earthy colours, with occasional usage of bolder colours such as sapphire, red, and gold (metallic undertones are used too). This is very effective, and examples of this include a mask imitating a grotesque rat, coloured…

In Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem We Wear the Mask you quickly find out it is one big metaphor. Dunbar’s meaning behind this poem is about people covering up their feelings like someone using a mask to cover their face; as if it’s a big front to hide what is really going on. Dunbar being an African American poet in the late 19th and early 20th century was a harder time on colored people. His poems relate back to the hardships he saw and knew. The poem is broken up into three paragraphs. Each one talks about this mask hiding cheeks and eyes, covering up the truth from the world, and dealing with your emotions behind closed doors. In We Wear the Mask Dunbar uses metaphors and symbolism, which all add up to the theme of the poem.…

During this assessment I was using the curious mask as my character seemed to be calm, contained but also curious at the same time hence i thought this would be a good choice of a mask for my character and felt that it suited my character well. my group consisted of Amani, Vishesh, Simran and I. Vishesh and I decided to be doctors who are travelling in a plane for an urgent meeting and happened to be sitting next to a famous celebrity, but we don't realize this until I start to read a magazine and I come across an article of her with her picture, then all of a sudden I remember who she is and try to signal vishesh that she is a famous person. At first he doesn't believe me and ignores me and during all this Amani is the airhostess and keeps coming to check on the celebrity as she already knows who the celeb is and constantly offers the her drinks, food etc and each time she ignores vishesh’s request for something to drink and vishesh ends up getting very upset and starts to groan and complain but at that very moment the air hostess walks in and sees vishesh making a ruckus and i decided to help him and get him out of the situation but the celeb is not happy and feels annoyed but stays in…
