According to the Journal of Work, Environment, and Health during a trial period “the six-week yoga group improved significantly in mood and well-being compared to the control group (Hartfiel, 2011).…
The notoriety of yoga is exhibited through renown yoga coach Baron Baptiste’s recollection of “training the Philadelphia Eagles … students from Georgetown University [and] former Washington Wizards basketball players.” The author quotes John Friend, another famous yogi; “[t]here is a deeper spiritual hunger for something larger than ourselves, which is many times not answered by organized religion” to support her counter-argument of yoga being a “spiritual…

The yamas are the fundamental ethical guidelines of yoga. In my opinion these are suggestions and guidelines for life. They guide us on how to deal with people and ourselves. Yama is defined as our attitude toward things and people outside ourselves. There are five sections that encompass yamas. Those five components are Ashima (nonviolence), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (nonstealing), Brahmacharya (Nonexcess), Aparigraha (nonpossessiveness). It is hoped that these five things become a part of a persons daily life and ultimately lead to happiness and health in society.…

I have considered attending a yoga class many times in the past. When given the chance to research the affects of yoga, I decided to engage in the act or art to see the effects first hand. As a child I remember experimenting on the yoga mat with my father, a devoted yoga enthusiast. So this is something I have desired to do for many years. One Christmas or birthday, I cannot recall which my father’s present to me was “YOGA for Beginners” with Patricia Walden, GAIAM – Mind, Body, Health video and instruction booklet By Michael Gliksohn. After searching for a minute I found it at the very bottom of the DVD stand. I really do not know why I never…
The whole system of Yoga is built on three main structures: exercise, breathing, and meditation. The exercises of Yoga are designed to put pressure on the glandular systems of the body, thereby increasing its efficiency and total health. The body is looked upon as the primary instrument that enables us to work and evolve in the world. Breathing techniques are based on the concept that breath is the source of life in the body, gently increasing breath control to improve the health and function of both body and mind. These two systems of exercise and breathing then prepare the body and mind for meditation, in turn finding an easy approach to a quiet mind that allows silence and healing from everyday stress. Regular daily practice of all three parts of this structure of Yoga produce a clear, bright mind and a strong, capable body (Weil, n.d.).…

This is why Yoga can help heal today's world. Yoga teaches us about the law of Karma. Today, we may say, "What goes around comes around," but "what we sow, we shall reap," is a scarier thought. Karma is the law of cause and effect.…
In the article “The Subtle Body – Should Christians Practice Yoga?”, Dr. A. Mohler takes a very dogmatic stand against the idea of a Christian engaging in yoga. However, the majority of the article seems to focus on how Americans (and Christians) have gradually come to accept yoga and are beginning to believe that it can easily be stripped of its Hindu implications. He continuously contrasts today's society to older societies where yoga was a “heathen” practice and totally out of the…
The role of a teacher is diverse and multifactorial; Francis and Gould (2009) suggest that the role of a teacher is not simply to be an evaluator but also to be a subject leader, curriculum developer, assessor, verifier and role model. Alternatively I suggest that the role and responsibilities of a teacher whilst multi variant are rooted in equality, diversity, inclusion, reflective learning, evaluation and progress. The role of a yoga teacher is to promote physical, mental and emotional support through postures and breathing techniques which assists students with their personal progression. Individual autonomy is paramount. It is necessary to be aware that the physical ability of a yoga teacher should not be affected by ones ego, the role is not to simply demonstrate advanced postures or techniques but to align with the group’s ability. The role is to collaborate, reflect and see the potential benefits of being a teacher.…

By the end of the book the narrator comes to an increasingly better understanding about the spiritual journeys one must go through to understand the world and the secrete of the human heart. This paper will explore the thoughts and feelings of the narrator as he undergoes his own journey of understanding the human heart.…
Throughout my life, I have always taken what people say to me personal. I always felt that I was the problem. I always thought that the advice that I was told was to follow and listen but then I realized it all comes down to you. I finally realized wherever you go or whoever you meet will have comments, opinions and thoughts thrown at you. Now it is my choice whether to take it personal or let it go in one ear out the other. I realized that the only reason I get angry and upset would be because I would let what people say get to me when I should not have. I was too sensitive and allowed their words hurt my emotions. I realized that allowing people’s opinions get to me will only give my power away and allow them to feel better about themselves. Now when people criticize or say their opinion to me, if it is not positive or respecting, I will just sympathize for them because they are not happy with themselves that is why they critic on another people.…
