The system development life cycle report

Introduction The system development life cycle, known as the SDLC, consist of six stages. A project team works through the stages of conceptualize, analyze, design, construct and implement a new information technology system. By using the system development life cycle it increases the accuracy and efficiency, also decreasing the odds of product failure.
The stages of the system development life cycle
The first stage of the system development life cycle is planning. The objective and requirements of the project are determined at this phase. An evaluation of personnel and costs, as well as ideas for new products is prepared. Once this information is gathered it is analyzed to determine if there is any alternative products to be used. In this stage the project team will determine what the end-user requirements will be. To come to these conclusions the project team will consult with client focus groups. This provides the project team with an idea of what is needed and expected for the end results of the product. At which point the project team will document all findings and review and approved by the client and management before moving on to the next stage. The third stage of the system development life cycle is design. With all the data and facts the project team will construct charts to determine what would be the best design logically and structurally. The project team creates mock-up screen layouts for the developers to use to create their interface. The fourth stage of the system development life cycle is construction. The developers will use the laid out data provided to them in the design stage to create a database, code for the data flow process, and user interface screens. Test data is prepared to refine the code as much as

    Slow and Cumbersome Procedure: It can be determined that the application of the system development life cycle is indeed cumbersome. There are as many as six (6) stages that needs to be crossed before a given system can be completed. These six (6) stages are System/Information Engineering and Modeling, Software Requirement Analysis, System Analysis and Design, Code Generation, testing, and maintenance. Each of these stages also is made up of a number of internal processes and procedures that need to be fulfilled. Due to the cumbersome nature of the methodology, it automatically makes the methodology very slow in implementing.     The systems development life cycle, also known as the waterfall model, consists of seven phases. Those phases are planning, systems analysis, system design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance. When this model is being used by a company they will usually complete one phase before beginning on the next. During the planning phase a systems analyst, who may or may not work for the company, will outline a proposed system, develop a budget, and create a detailed development schedule. This is when the company’s senior management needs to decide whether it would be best to modify their current systems or just build a new system. To help them make the decision the company performs four types of feasibility analysis: technical, economic, operational, and schedule. These help the company see which one will have the least amout of technical problems, which one will have the best use economically, which one will run fastest and easiest, and which on works best in their schedule. Once they have decided the company will move on to the systems analysis phase. In this phase the company looks at what their current problems are and how they can fix them with their new or existing program. Next the company will move to the systems design phase. In this phase the company will take what they have learned about what the new system will require in order to solve the problems within the business and will describe in detail how the team will build the new system. They will discuss the specific functions it should have and what parts it should contain. Now that the company knows how they want the system build it is time to build it. That is what the development phase is for. In the develpoment phase the company works with a programmer to get the system built to their specifications.
