Running Head: LUBISCO

Information Technology

The transportation industry in recent years has seen the impact of GPS technology and the internet impact its business model. The industry in itself is unique because it does not manufacture or produce a product; its main source of revenue comes from selling a service. That service is simple; provide customers with reliable solutions to their transportation needs. In 2010 International Data Group’s Computerworld named FedEx Corp as one of the best places to work in IT. IT can be defined as is a branch of engineering dealing with the use of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_technology).
With the boom of e-commerce and internet websites such as EBay, and Amazon, goods are being purchased 24/7 over the internet. The recipients of these goods expect their shipments to be delivered on time and intact. FedEx has simplified this by developing a webpage on their website called tracking. Customers can input their order or tracking number and receive up to date information on the status of their shipment and an estimated time it will be delivered. Shippers can also use this data to rate the service FedEx is providing their customers.
Recently, FedEx added a new service to their tracking system that gives customers the ability to get email or text message confirmations when their shipment delivers or becomes lost in transit. This innovation has led to a decrease in returns, and a higher percentage of deliveries on first attempts. Customers that know when their shipment will be delivered are more likely to be home to receive it.
Besides advances to customer IT needs, FedEx has embraced software and technology advances for management to increase efficiency and profitability. Nearly 70% of all freight tonnage in the United States is moved in trucks,

Rossi Inc. is a diversified manufacturer of industrial products. In 2008, Rossi updated its asbestos litigation liability, including the costs of settlement payments and defense costs relating to currently pending claims and future claims projected to be filed against the Company through 2017 for losses incurred to date. Before 2008, the Company’s previous estimate was for claims projected to be filed through 2011. As part of the 2008 update to the asbestos litigation liability, Rossi engaged Thompson and Associates, a consulting firm, to serve as an external specialist to estimate the claims liability for December 31, 2008. As a result of the 2008 update and the external specialist claims estimate, the Company significantly increased its recorded asbestos litigation liability by $586 million, arriving at a total liability estimate of $1,055 million as of December 31, 2008. During 2009, additional payments against the reserve reduced the recorded liability to $962 million. As of December 31, 2009, the Company performed an analysis of the asbestos litigation reserve and determined that the asbestos litigation liability should remain at $962 million. In 2009, Rossi Inc.’s average cost per claim litigation increased from $29,000 in 2008, to $34,000 due to management’s aggressive approach. Without Christ, there can be no Christian discipleship. Christ is the teacher, friend, leader, guide, savior and Son of God who is the central part of Christian discipleship. 1 John 5:20 says, “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” To be a disciple of Christ, one must acknowledge Jesus as the central part of discipleship.…

While there are those who may be uncomfortable with the idea that worship is a goal in making disciples, the goal of Christian education according to Mitchell is to make a disciple who worships Jesus. Mitchell points out that worship is more than just showing up at church on Sunday morning for an hour of corporate worship. He points out that worship according to John 4:19 -24 goes much deeper than just that time of corporate worship that we often think of as worship. He points out that worship involves the whole person, mind, body and soul. Anderson states that corporate worship is “an action of discipling and discipleship” and a “school for the Lord’s service.”…

Throughout high school, English was never my favorite subject. It seemed bland and dull to me and I thought that whatever career I chose would have more to do with mathematics and sciences. So when I enlisted into the U.S. Army and eventually achieved the rank of Sergeant, I discovered that writing was one of the most important factors of my everyday life. Now there are many different forms and memorandums that write on a weekly basis, but if I had to choose one that stands out above all others, it would be the DA Form 4856. It is otherwise known as the Developmental Counseling Form, which is without a doubt the most important writing assignment I complete every month.…

Popular culture is the ‘quantity over quality’ result of a society’s generational interests. Trevor Dunn, an American musician once said “Pop culture is not about depth. It’s about marketing, supply and demand, consumerism.” Pop culture defines the extremes of real culture; we want to see and hear and feel things that push the norms and limitations of everyday life. America has become desensitized to the violence, the scandal, and the oversaturated reality of popular media. It’s important to remember that society only follows popular culture; it’s merely the creation of the few rich, selfish individuals who put it on for us to mindlessly enjoy.…

In the package delivery business, information technology has transformed the industry by allowing companies like UPS to operate in a near real time environment. The speed of delivery has increased through the use of computer systems which connects companies directly to their customers. According to Laudon (2013), by utilizing technology such as bar-coded labels and handheld communication devices like the UPS Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD) companies can plan for the most efficient means of delivering a package based on a customer’s needs before that package is even picked up. Packages can even be tracked from pick up to delivery by customers using information transferred from a company’s tracking systems to corporate Internet websites. These advancements through the use of information technology have reduced the time it takes to deliver a package from days to, virtually, whatever a customer’s schedule dictates.…
