1. Describe the action taking place in the cartoon and identify any key objects or persons. A man with a snake head in a grim reaper costume labeled drug abuse is dragging a young man in a suit into a coffin underground. The direction in which he is being dragged to (by a string which is attached to a ring on his nose) by the grim reaper leads to an underground coffin and in the opposite direction there are signs that point to education, employment, career, and good health.
2. Explain the cartoonist’s message about the issue or event. The cartoonist’s message about the issue, drug abuse, is that he says that drugs can only lead to death and people who stay away from drugs (by going in the opposite direction) may have a higher chance of being employed, a good career, a good education, and good health. He wants to advise young people that using drugs is not the right direction in life.
3. Does this cartoon require you to have a lot of background information on this issue, event, or person? Yes or no. Explain. The reader would need to know about drug abusers and why it is a huge problem in our society.

It also causes people to live painful, unhealthy lives or just simply pass away. This is why drug abuse should be stopped and people should always be warned and aware of the consequences. This way, one would know how life would be when abusing drugs (death, failure in education, career, and employment) and how life would be when not under the influence of drugs, or the “grim reaper” (a long healthy life, in most cases, a proper education with a good career and employment rate.)     Many people all around the world face challenges and obstacles every day in their daily lives. One man in particular is Nic Sheff; a man who was a drug addict and wrote an autobiography called “Tweak”.
