Why College Education Is Important To Me

Growing up I did not see a college education in my future due to its price tag. As my parents brought home just enough money every week to get by, I decided during the 11th grade in high school that I would rather work and make money than stay in school. I left school, received my G.E.D. a year later, all while working a full time job at the neighborhood pizzeria. A few years had passed, I landed a better job in an office setting as a typist. After working there for a little over 5 years, I realized this is not what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Being a typist was something I was good at; however, I yearned for something bigger and better. I tried several times to find another job, but there seemed to be one obstacle in my way, these better jobs required more than a G.E.D. or High School Diploma, they required a college degree. After several turn downs, careful thought, and consideration, I decided it was time for me to give this whole college thing a try. By this time I am now 26 years old with a 2 year old son, how am I possibly going to go to school and have time to study while being a stay-at-home mother? That’s when I started researching what opportunities were out there for me besides the standard college education. This is where I discovered “Distance Learning” with Ashworth
College.
Here I am a little over a decade later going for my college education. During the last 11 years, I have learned that a college education is the golden key to success and is needed in my

book to make something of myself. A college education opens many doors to great opportunities.
“When students experience a post-secondary education, they have the opportunity to read books and listen to the lectures of the top experts in their fields. This stimulation encourages students to think, ask questions, and explore new ideas, which

However, I was not willing to accept that, or do much about it. I was just going from construction job to construction job. Then, I met somebody else. There is only one problem (of course, I did not realize it was a problem at the time). We had only one thing in common, you guessed it; drugs. After a while, I was doing more drugs than work. Then we had a child, although we were never married, we ended up having another child. This relationship was dysfunctional to say the least. (problems from this relationship is haunting me to this day). It was time to look at myself. I decided, to look at my life and myself. I was about 30 years old, and I have let drugs take over my life. Now, innocent people are getting hurt. (The children). We were fighting excessively. One day I just said enough was enough. I tried to get off the drugs, but by that time, I knew I was addicted. I got the help I needed, and got off the drugs and I am clean to this day.…

In discussion of colleges importance, one controversial issue has been on how much it really matters. On the one hand, college supporters argue that college is very important and can help one achieve a prosperous future. On the other hand, college detractors contend that college is a waste of time and not useful in the long run. My own view is that college can be useful when people use it in the right way; to gain a degree, and not just to party.…

After careful thought and consideration, I made the desire to return to school into a realistic goal. I had finally come to the conclusion, that it was time to take control of my circumstances, rather than continue to let my circumstances control me. For the first time in twenty years, I have a window of opportunity to fit a degree program into my daily schedule. Returning to school had always been a desire of mine, but in the past, I did not think I had the time or the money to pursue a degree. I was a single mother, I was working all of the time, my children were very young, and half of my wages went to daycare expenses.…

When I first started out going to school after college I thought that I wanted to be a teacher and so right after high school I started going to school to be an elementary teacher. I quit school because I wanted to move out of my parent’s house and be on my own so I got a full time job. After I moved and got stable I went back to get my early elementary degree. After about a year and a half I got pregnant and had my son and couldn’t go to class in the morning after being up all night with a toddler and then to work so I quit school again until my son got older. My son was able to start school when he was two so I decided to go back to school and get my educational degree. As I was going to school I was also volunteering at my son’s school and that is when I decided I really didn’t want to be a teacher and I was undecided what I wanted to do and I knew I was wasting my money and time going to school so I quit once again. I got a job at a temp agency working for the temp sending people on assignments and after a year the company decided they were going to close the company in my location but my supervisor got me a job at Advanced Radiology Services doing data entry putting in codes in the system. After a few years I realized that I really like being in the health care field and wanted a career in it and I tried to move up doing different jobs in the field but I realized that in order to really move up and eventually become a director I would need a degree so I decided to get my degree in Healthcare Management so I went back to school, this time determined to make it work.…

In today's society, the idea of a college education has become less of an option and more of a necessary requirement and is commonly considered the only way to acquire a successful career and life. There are many careers, in which a college education is not technically necessary, that can often be just as or even more successful. With the cost of college tuition increasing with every passing year, the controversy of whether college is really worth the cost and burden is growing too. If our society wants to continue displaying a college education as somewhat of a necessity for success, I believe the cost of it should shift to being a more realistic price, suitable for the majority of students striving to go to college.…
