Wound Incident Analysis
On last week clinical, I saw how a wound management meeting goes. The nurses were communicating with each other and everyone was giving their opinions about the new equipment they would be using. They discussed the benefits of it and how it would be set up. It was interesting for me to see. I learned about other types of wound that I did not know before like the mucosal membrane injury and how to tell all the different wounds apart. While on the floor with the nurses, I saw how they do their skin assessments to check for pressure ulcers or any kind of skin breakdown. They looked at patient’s elbows, back and their heels and they documented their findings. While the nurse was documenting, she also let me see that if a patient’s Braden score is <18 that they would contact a nutritionist if the patient did not already have one.

I only got to see one and that was a patient that was a construction worker that got nick with something, causing his whole leg getting infected with bacteria. It was a sad thing to see because it looked like at some point his whole leg would need to get amputated because of how fast it was spreading. Another nurse also administered his medications through a PEG tube so I was able to see that. It was confusing to me a bit because we were taught to flush the tube first before giving the medications, but she did do that.
It was a pleasant experience seeing how things got done and learning from the nurses there. They were nice and funny and everybody joked out and got along with each other while doing their job. I was relaxed around them and they made it possible for me to ask them questions so I enjoyed
