World War 1
In August of 1914, most of Europe was at war. World War I was all throughout Europe and changed many lives of the Europeans. During the World War, there were many new military and technological advancements. Universal military services were formed by the European nations and new weapons and war tactics were invented. Due to the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, tensions between Austria and Germany against Serbia, Russia, and France began to rise, which led up to the start of World War I. Thus, the main catalyst for World War I was the assassination of the Archduke and his wife. At that time, the Austro – Hungarian Empire had many different nationalities that were in it. One of the major nationalities was the Slavs. The Archduke, who was the heir to the Austro- Hungarian Empire, upset many of the Slavs who wanted their own independence and freedom. They were not content with being under the Austro-Hungarian Empire rule and fought hard to break away and establish their own country. In order to break away from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Slavs from Siberia were supportive and encouraged them to establish their own country. A group of Slav’s set up a secret organization and planed to free all the Slavs that were under Franz Ferdinand’s rule. The terrorist group named themselves the “Black Hand” and they came up with a plan to assassinate the Archduke and his wife Sophie. On June 28, 1914, the Archduke and his wife paid a visit to the city of Sarajevo to celebrate their wedding anniversary. They received warm welcomes from the people and there were no soldiers on duty and only a few police, so security was not as tight as it should have been. A 19-year-old Serb named Gavrillo Princip, who was one of the members of the Black Hand terrorist group shot both the Archduke and his wife during the parade. The assassination terrorist attack of the Archduke and his wife was the main catalyst of the World War.

As Archduke Franz Ferdinand heirs his throne along with his wife Sophie during the summer of June 28, they were shockingly assassinated by a Serbian native Gravilo Princip. This occurrence led to which we all know as World War 1. This incident struck worldwide as to where many countries took notice as established to declare war. The first country to do so was Austria-Hungary declaring on Serbia in July 28. Different countries declared war amongst each other which continued until late August in 1914. By then, the nation was under full effect as 3rd world countries declared war and allies were tagging along to destroy one another. This frenzy corrupted the government control by far typically because the war got out of control and went far beyond their expectations of a short war that would be over by Christmas. The government was disorganized and had no idea how to manage the war and the differences in this war compared to wars fought in the past.…

Although he had been assassinated by the Black Hand, and the Serbian government had a role in making the plans, he wanted to aid the Serbians in many different ways. The Archduke stated that when he rose to the Austria-Hungarian throne, he wanted to give the Serbian ethnic groups located within the empire more political power (Bodden 19). Most of the groups, which included the Bosnians, the Slovenes, the Croats, and other southern slaws, were struggling, for they did not have much political power and they were having economic problems. Ferdinand wanted to fix that, since a broad amount of the Austria-Hungarian empire’s population belonged to Serbian ethnic groups. Also, once the Archduke obtained the throne, he wanted to talk to Serbia about the conflict that was occurring and he wanted to find a solution. He wanted to make a compromise and form an agreement with Serbia, but he never got the chance to. One of the most important factors to the unjustification of the assassination was that Ferdinand did not want to go to war with Serbia (Preston). He also saw conflict arising between Serbia and Austria-Hungary, and he wanted to restrain war and conflict from occurring as soon as he could. Archduke Franz Ferdinand wanted to make treaties and agreements with Serbia, and the fact that he…

When World War 1 broke out in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared the United States neutral. Although U.S. soldiers did not fight until 1917, the country was never technically impartial in the conflict. Cultural and economic ties, U.S. predilection, and global political ideals manifested a tip in American scales toward the Allies, ultimately leading to the nation’s entrance in World War 1.…

Franz Ferdinand had limited political influence. He was Emperor Franz Joseph's nephew, and became the heir when Franz Joseph's son killed himself in 1889 (his sisters could not take the throne). This position conferred less power than one might think. Franz Ferdinand's wife, Sophie Chotek, was a Bohemian noblewoman, but not noble enough to be royal. She was scorned by many at court, and their children were out of the line of succession (Franz Ferdinand's brother Otto was next). Franz Ferdinand had strong opinions, a sharp tongue and many political enemies. He favored "trialism," adding a third Slavic component to the Dual Monarchy, in part to reduce the influence of the Hungarians. His relations with Budapest were so bad that gossips blamed the killing on Magyar politicians. So if Ferdinand was relatively unimportant politically speaking, why did his killing result in a war between Serbia and Austria-Hungary?…

World War One or ‘The Great War' as it became known, occurred due to many causes, some of which still remain unexposed today. The obvious trigger for the war was the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie on 28th June 1914. The assassination occurred during the Archduke's visit to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Archduke was targeted due to the general feeling amongst Serbians that, once appointed to the throne, Ferdinand would continue the persecution of Serbs living within the borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Just moments after the two had been shot; authorities arrested the culprit, Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian student, who was believed to have been linked to the Serbian terrorist organization, The Black Hand.…
