It is a timely discussion of what sort of importance should we give to the issue of overpopulation and what can we do about it, directed mostly to the elected readers of this weekly publication. It works on the expansion of the line of inquiry and creates room for curiosity.…
For the last 50 years, world population multiplied more rapidly than ever before, and more rapidly than it is projected to grow in the future. In 1950, the world had 2.5 billion people; and in 2005, the world had 6.5 billion people. By 2050, this number could rise to more than 9 billion (see chart "World Population Growth, 1950-2050").…
Population Explosion Look at the U.S. Census Bureau's World Population Clock. This clock gives an up to the second estimate of the world population. By how much does the population grow in 1 minute? How many people is that per second? Per week? Using the U.S. Census Bureau's State and County Quick Facts, find the most recent population estimates for your state and county. How does your county population compare to the number of people the world population grows by each week? Are you surprised by the results? -4,599,030 people in Alabama. 299,398,484 people in the USA. I was surprised at thepopulation of Alabama. I had no idea that many people lived in…
Over the decades of population growth, the world population already reached to billions in the 21st century. Poverty is one of the main causes of the rapid population growth. We also have to face the worst impacts of overpopulation on the environment, economics and human health. We need to clearly understand what the present situation is. We should try our best to find solutions by considering the causes and effects of overpopulation. If we cannot find common ground on how to move forward sustainably and ethically, we may see the exhaustion of natural resources and the destabilisation of our economy and society. I recommend family planning…
Multicultural day was very interesting and I was able to experience and learn about several different cultures. I saw a performance and speech about ancient Japanese martial arts also called kobudo. I also stopped to listen to three musical performances. I stopped in one classroom to hear about the Syrian crisis, which was extremely interesting and I’m very glad to have learned about it. The whole experience was very intriguing and very educational.…
According to the Population Research Centre in the Institute of Economic Growth in New Delhi in 2001, India’s population stood at about 350 million at the time of independence in 1947. Belying Malthusian fears, it grew at an unprecedented rate to reach the one billion mark at the dawn of the new millennium. The Census of 2001 has put the population figure provisionally at 1,027 million, even though it registered a significant reduction in the growth rate of population. During the latter half of the twentieth century, India’s population had grown by nearly 650 million.…
India 's population is in peril. Without the implementation of stringent, effective population management policies, the country 's population will rise above 2 billion within the next 20 years (www.fpaindia.com). In the absence of control programs, India 's ever growing population will lead to increased incidents of famine, disease, environmental stress and result in a severe shortage of housing facilities. However, if the Indian government quickly administers population regulations so that couples have, on average, 2 children by 2001-2006, India 's population will stabilize at approximately 1.7 billion (www.fpaindia.com). A drop in both the fertility and birth rates is essential. To achieve this goal, the 5 Year Planning Commission intends to follow the new population control program outlined by India 's central government. We intend to explore reasons why family planning is essential, issues concerning the expansion of health care, and also sterilization practices and alternatives, proving that our 5-year plan for population management most plausible and logical method to control a rapidly burgeoning population.…
In my country, Korea, having same holiday Thanksgiving called by Chu-Seok. Thanksgiving is upon us. I have to say, fall is one of my most favorite times of the year – first Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and then Christmas, all right in a row. The decorations, the music, the food, the holiday spirit – I like it. Coming from a large family – and having a large extended family – only heightened the holiday cheer growing up, and I used to help create that cheer for my own family. So I think I’d take a moment to talk about what Thanksgiving means to me.…
“Go and make disciples of all nations”. With these words, Jesus is speaking to each one of us, saying: “It was wonderful to take part in World Youth Day, to live the faith together with young people from the four corners of the earth, but now you must go, now you must pass on this experience to others.” Jesus is calling you to be a disciple with a mission! Today, in the light of the word of God that we have heard, what is the Lord saying to us? Three simple ideas: Go, do not be afraid, and serve.…

World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world. The theme for 2013 is high blood pressure. Hypertension (HTN) or high blood pressure, sometimes called arterial hypertension, is a chronic medical condition in which the pressure in the arteries is elevated. This requires the heart to work harder than normal to circulate blood through the blood vessels. Blood pressure is summarized by two measurements, systolic and diastolic, which depend on whether the heart muscle is contracting (systole) or relaxed between beats (diastole). Normal blood pressure at rest is within the range of 100-140mmHg systolic (top reading) and 60-90mmHg diastolic (bottom reading). High blood pressure is said to be present if it is persistently at or above 140/90 mmHg. High blood pressure – also known as raised blood pressure or hypertension – increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. If left uncontrolled, high blood pressure can also cause blindness, irregularities of the heartbeat and heart failure. The risk of developing these complications is higher in the presence of other cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes. One in three adults worldwide has high blood pressure. The proportion increases with age, from 1 in 10 people in their 20s and 30s to 5 in 10 people in their 50s.…
